Where to find some Retrofits?

So im not looking to break my bank by spending $500+ on some headlights, so I was wondering where everyone is finding retrofits for sale at a reasonable price with trust worthy quality? Thanks in advance!

Well they will sometimes pop up for sale. I build them along with a few other members. Or you could always learn how to make your own set..

1. buy a retrofit kit off of HIDWerks or TheRetrofitSource

2. turn your stock headlights into retro's

i just did my own and it cost me half that, it was my first time every dealing with lights and i'll say it was a tough at times but i think they turned out good. this is the only pic i have currently

If you dont wanna pay 500+ youre gonna have to make them yourself. You dont get build quality + performance + looks for a dirt cheap price. Gotta pay to play.

^This...

Even if I were to make you a set the materials alone for a basic set are gonna cost $270-300. Then the cost of the lights and if you are going to send yours, or starting with a new set. Then labor and shipping of course...

The difference is that retro's impliment a projector into the stock reflector bowl. With a projector, you are able to disperse the light in a even pattern..like this...

i c. but 300+ for changing the light pattern is alittle crazy i guess. I'm more performance over looks but however my passenger side headlight fogs up and is starting to look like ****. i'd either like to get them fixed or get new ones.

It's more then just changing the pattern. The light output is superior compared to the stock headlights. But yes, If I didn't make my own, I would find it hard to spend 500-700 on something cosmetic. But to each their own ya know..

Projectors definitely aren't just for looks. It's as much as a performance mod. Just a different performance.

If you haven't been in a car with a projector/hid setup, you're really missing out.

retro's are a night/day difference over stock, i've had them on less than a week and i wont go back to stock light unless it's an emergency, these are sooooooooo much better like in kdub's pics...

this 100%.

I paid good money for mine, but I could only find one person who was going to meet my expectations for quality.

I hear it is very easy, and may challenge myself to a set this summer, im not sure. I started making gauge pods last year. Didnt think I could do that, but I did. I plan to make more this summer but refine them way over what I produced last year.

If you have a few extra bucks and time take the challenge. Youll feel alot better with a set you built over a set you bought.

Heres what I had.

your retros look great!

OP- i was in the same boat as you. i picked up a set of 1st gen projectors for dirt but i am still thinking of doing retros. if you think you want to try and do retros, try to find a set of headlights new or used. so in case you want you stock ones incase you trade you car in you could sell your projectors.

i did not want to do retros but there are a few really cut and dry How-to's on here that makes it super easy to take a stab at retros.

i have not done them so i cant say if its hard or easy peasy but to ME,with the write ups out there,i think i can do it. and if you are some what a hands-on person, its do-able.

or you could ask some well known retro builders on here and ask how much they charge for a retro build.

honestly for me the hardest part was pulling apart the my lens'/housings even after putting them in the oven, but then again my stock lights are 5+ years old. other than that i don't think it was all that bad for my first time

standard mh1 kit

Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

$270

Plus the cost of new headlights, you would have to purchase another set if you have someone else do it, so anywhere from $100-150.

roughly $400 in parts right there. Anyone who builds a set of retros and charges less than $100 in labor really undervalues their time, or is rushing through it and not doing it right.

I'm guessing you didn't get it with the Morimoto kit? Thinking you just went with the HIDwerks kit

Morimoto Mini H1's and it was a mix... the projectors, glue, shrouds, and relay came directly from TRS while the bulbs and ballasts came from HIDWerks

Yea that's what I was saying. You got the HIDWerks HID kit and got Mini H1 projectors. For $200 not a bad deal at all!

Yeah I have a set of aftermarket headlights to swap into my car while I retrofit the stock ones. And I already have hid kits. Just need projectors and shrouds.
