17's for Brembos...

are there any readily available 17's that a 245/40R17 BFG R1 would fit on? I've got a chance to get some at a pretty good deal... i figure if nothing else they'll be my mountain tires :D

Wangspeed 06-14-2011 08:44 PM

I think you're stuck with Team Dynamics or some other custom setup. Kinda wish I knew about that option when I was getting wheels, but oh well. I'd love to have 17" for track. Cheaper tires.

ion redline wheels will work

dont they still require spacers to fit?

RoadconeTuning 06-15-2011 09:36 AM

you would put a 245/40 on a 17x7? lol

and yes an IRL wheel will bolt on just fine... the caliper bracket isnt going to flex enough to hit the wheel either... and the wheel deff wont flex...

Oh, I guess your wheel bearings are perfect, even under lateral load...

Your crazy for running an R-comp on the street. Granted I used to love scrubbing in my hoosiers/kumhos on the street when I used to run them. But, that was for maybe 5 miles.

Anyone ever find out if the 17" Alleggerita would fit? they might for for you.

Uh, is he actually trying to use them as daily drivers? They'll be dead in 3 weeks from being heat cycled out.

haha real r comp tires on the street? haha haha have fun with that

RoadconeTuning 10-11-2011 04:44 PM

THREAD NECRO!

done more reading about the amount of flex people experience... the IRL wheel works in drag racing but thats about it... I'm actually somewhat afraid of RPF1's now after hearing about some of them flexing like a mofo

street miles would have been in the mountains... at the time i had a HUGE discount on some R1's and was going to see if i could run then... waiting on a set of PS2's at the moment since that never happened.

RoadconeTuning 10-11-2011 04:47 PM

and for good measure...

The caliper flexes, yes even the little monobloc Brembos, and the wheel bearings aren't perfect. Wheel flex? Doubt there is any appreciable amount, even with R comps.

Data point, I have had calipers hit wheels when 1/8" (approx.) of clearance was present. Was a PBR caliper on a Mustang, but I would hesitate to install wheels with tiny amounts of caliper clearance. Was not a pleasant experience at 100+ mph on track.

Between caliper flex and bearing runout, I can believe that. Or maybe you just had soft flexible wheels ;)

madcitySS 10-12-2011 12:35 PM

the 17s i had on my sti were super close to the OE wheels but never had an issue. I know I plan to buy a set of 17X9s someday.

All three? ;)

I use both a set of 17X7s and a set of 17X7.5s that were originally for my redline but they work just fine over the Brembos. The widest 17s I can find for the 5X110 bolt pattern are some 17X8s - look here Most Wheels Database

Good luck

Scott

I haven't had any issues with this car, was speaking of my old foxbody.

jboogie 10-12-2011 10:22 PM

I'm going back to 15s so there may be a set of 17x9s available soon. Gonna need some 15x9 6UL moneys come spring. ;)

It's tough to find a jelly bean that isn't all rusty these days. Even the gas tanks are filled with crud now.

This is honestly the cleanest 20 year old car I have ever seen and 225 rwhp with the top down in tis great fall weather doesnt hurt either. hope to see you at VIR with trackdaze this year but, I know all about the new baby thing so hopefully you can make it.

You going in Nov? I'm trying to go. Looks like I should be able to make it.

Wangspeed 10-17-2011 12:21 PM

BTW - I assume that's a turbo Miata since it's 225whp. I have a thing against them, ever since 2002, when one grenaded its engine on me. In the passenger's seat is Scott Lear, who now works @ Grassroots Motorsports. He's the one swearing :)

Oh wow. Guess the miata must have had some oil starvation? Yes it's turbo.:guns:
