brembos on road course?

Looking to upgrade the brakes in my ss/sc.....brakes like to fade during a hard session. How do the ss/tc brembos hold up? Stock pads and rotors, or upgraded?

A conversion to front calipers, stainless lines, and stock pads from As/TC are great will have little to no fade.

Stainless lines and a good DOT 4 fluid will go a long ways. If you're still getting lots of fade, the Brembo swap is very good. I had no fade at Road America on the stock pads and rotors with DOT 4 fluid.

Yea, i already swapped to some good dot 4 fluid.....one of the local tracks here was pretty hard on the brakes and got a good bit of fade. Headed to Road Atlanta in a couple months and want to makr sure i don't have that issue.....pretty tricky track

Thanks! I was debating buying the calipers and stuff and doing some hawk pads, and some drilled/slotted rotors....but if the stock stuff will mdo good, that is the cheaper route anyway

Stay away from drilled, they will play connect the dots and crack at the temps you see on track.

The stock pads (which are Ferodo) are very good. Run them on a normal rotor and you should be fine.

Hawk pads aren't very good until you get to their high end stuff. Cobalt frictions , carbotech and ferrodo are where it's at. At Whitney said stay away from drilled rotors period. Slotted will help shave the pads slightly and when the slots are slow you know it's time to change them. A good vented rotor will do more then any slots.

Idk you experience level but if your a rookie have good fluid in because I have seen too many people boil fluid on dot3 from being too hard on the brakes. It's going to have to happen regardless due to getting faster but there's no point In waiting.

The ferrodo pads should be enough until you start getting fast.

You should never run anything less than DOT 4 at the track. And as others said, stock pads and rotors are good and stay away from drilled rotors.

if your just putzing around you can get away with dot3. last couple times i was on track there were a few cars such as a base 2 door neon and ford contour that were just out there for fun and not doing anything else and definately were not braking hard enough for dot4.

i really say the only time you need it is if your actually trying to drive quick. also i recommend a bleed EVERY time you go to the track atleast. i flush it out twice a year and sometimes more depending on how it looks.

that's true, but for peace of mind, it's worth it to go to DOT 4 IMO. It isn't that much more expensive than DOT 3 and it doesn't take much to boil DOT 3 as soon as you start pushing.

Good advice. Many people don't bother flushing outside of the recommended intervals in the manual even though most clubs and tracks recommend fresh fluid. I flush it out twice a year too but that usually works out to once every 3-4 track days. Once every track day is probably ideal but I found no deterioration in performance unless I keep the same fluid for 7-8 track days so I cut that in half and stuck with it.

I've done many track days with my Brembos on stock calipers and rotors with DOT4 in there. I've never had brake fade; however, they do take more abuse and I had 2 pistons start to get scored and hang up. Though, the rough winter this past year could have played a role in that. I ended up rebuilding the front calipers last month. This weekend I'll be giving them a good test at Watkins Glen. Fresh DOT4 in there as well.

Just a follow-up to my own reply. After rebuilding the calipers I took my car up to Watkins Glen for a 2 day track meet and the rebuilt calipers were the best I ever felt. I was practicing heavily on threshold braking and trail braking and everything held up great lap after lap.

Does anyone putting Brembos on the front, upgrade the rear axle calipers?

No need, the fronts are doing the majority of the work.
