Budget Track Days? (northeast)

Hey guys, I'm looking to get on the track as much as I can but I am on a tight (for track days) budget. Is there a website or some resource available that lists all the events for each track? I know lots of different clubs will allow you to race with them. Even events during the week, I can take off a handful of days over the summer to save some money on track time.

mkulrey13 02-28-2013 11:32 AM

NED street night is only 20$..

EDIT: your not in the "Northeast" your in NJ... nevermind my post

NickD 02-28-2013 11:35 AM

In the clubs they consider this northeast... Beats me. Anyway, my area coverage for weekday events is probably Limrock, NJMP, and Pocono. I don't think I can make it as far as Watkins Glen, Summit, or VIR for a single weekday event.

Shipmate!!!!!!!!!!

Listen up, go to Motorsportsreg.com, punch in your area and you will have listed a bunch of events you can go to and you can even register ahead right from their website. Check it out and Congrats on being a unique individual and not just a roll racer/ big power freak.

its all autox by us ... the closest to us is lime rock for time trials. ..... e-town is a nice cheap alternative i guess for a budget.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!

yellowsupercharged06: There's quite a few autocrosses in there, but if you look closely you can see a number of events at NJMP and Pocono. I haven't looked in to pricing and what-not, but some of those are during the week. I managed to hit up Pocono last season for $180 for the day (DE2) on a random Tuesday in October.

how do you get the upgraded liscense to compete in these events?

The key here is it's not competition. I'm participating in HPDE (High Performance Drivers' Education). You start at DE1 on a given track and you have an instructor work with you. As you gain more experience you move up. Once you get through DE4, depending on the club, you can get a competition license to race within that club. I just have fun doing the DE events and don't, yet, have interesting in competition. You just need to show up with a car, generally longs pants and a long sleeve shirt. You can rent a helmet at the track or bring a motorcycle helmet. DE3 and DE4 require an actual auto racing helmet. It's a real blast to do and I'm trying to get out more and more :) Just be prepared to invest in brakes and tires.

That should be it. I'd find out more details in regards to the club you're racing with. I've never raced with the Audi club before, so it'd be worth it to check out their requirements and restrictions. I've only done events with NASA and BMW CCA.

09BlkCrusader 02-28-2013 02:42 PM

Ah sorry bout that, thought he mentioned drag strips too. OOOOOOOOOOOOOPS!

I didn't clarify in my first post. I've never been to Atco though, only E-town and Island Dragway(RIP).

NickD 02-28-2013 02:45 PM

Scratch the Pocono one... My g/f needs to be at the rehearsal dinner on Friday night -- thought it was a Sunday wedding.

yellowsupercharged06 02-28-2013 04:06 PM

What Snell rating? I believe most clubs require SNELL 2005 or newer as of now and that will be expiring soon too. I have a SNELL 2010M that should be good for a little while longer. I'll probably buy a dedicated helmet for the track somewhat soon. I'd rather get dedicated track rims and tires first.

yellowsupercharged06 03-04-2013 08:22 PM

The one i bought was 2010, there good for 10 years tho. I run summer tires/wheels during the summer an use those for track as well what setup are u guna run ?
