Damn Cones... Removing Cone Rash?

I did a search and couldn't find what i was looking for. I have been hearing different things but wanted some other Cobalt owners input on the best method to remove the black residue from the bumper and sides. Damn cones need to be made from feathers and pixie dust....

A light cutting compound followed by a polishing compound

Sounds good to me, you're just talking about some scuffs right? Make sure you don't get some serious cutting compounds cause it's just minor scuffs from the sound. Also use a microfiber cloth!!!

Yeah, I got some scuffs. Got a REALLY bad one on the underside of the lip that looks like I curbed it but there were no curbs to curb it with... That one will have to be done professionally.

I had heard Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser works. Every tried that?

Jesus, don't use a magic eraser. Too abrasive! It's just a cone mark. Most of them come off with a little elbow grease and a clean micro fiber towel. Maybe add a little quick detailer. Only a really bad one would require a polish. If the stuff even says the word compound on the jar, it is the wrong product for the car!

I remove them with a soap and sponge. They rub right out.

I've given up in the past few years though. Mechanical reliability has surpassed looks in the past few years. My rockers are almost all black haha

Dont see the problem with using some polishing compound and or a little bit of light cutting cream if you do it lightly and correctly

Thanks everyone. I will try the least abrasive method first and work my way up until the scuffs are gone.

I usually just wash the area with a little soap and water and then wax it. It seems to work.

If you have it on any 3M film the Magic eraser works well. It's a bitch to get it off that stuff.

a little wd40 and a soft rag before washing it takes it right off

Bug and tar here also. I have an old school wash sponge I use sometimes when the microfiber mit is to soft do the job, a little tougher.

I try to reserve using gas unless I absolutely have to, like if there are... tire swirlies on the side of your car, but let's not talk about how that happens

You should not be that close to other peoples tires!!!
If they get that close to you, you can use gas to burn another car!!!

Also your lights will stay in if you STAY OFF the curbing. Do I need to come out there and show you how it's done? Don't make me have to put a whooping on your east coast boys!!!

No tire swirlies on this car, that was on my old race car.

What fun is it to stay off the curbing? Gotta catch the big HP cars somehow

See thats one of the benefits of autoxing, we learn how to stay away from little things like that. You road guys just take up the whole road. Road HOG!!!

I used to road race open superbike, and do you know what happens to a race bike if you hit the curbing in a corner leaned over? I avoid them like the plague.
