first autox of the season with Rivals
I had an autox school Sunday at Devens with the Boston BMW club and shook some of the winter driving rust off. I've raced the SS at a few events the past 2 seasons but this was the first with a real tire. Most of my 4 seasons of racing was with my '02 Vette. When I bought the car it had some cheapo tires so it made a huge improvement. I really like the tire so far. The rears were happy with 35psi but the fronts started to roll over at 35. Looks like 37-38 psi in the fronts might be the spot to keep it at.
I surprised my buddy in his '95 Miata (Dunlop II's) and beat him by about 1 second on a 55 second course. Bragging rights! Especially since he's been racing longer than I have. I was about 3 seconds off the fastest time which was my buddies '02 Z06 with about 450hp and fresh Toyo R888's. He actually beat the fastest instructor (Dunlop II's Z4) by .3 for the FTD! I know, I know, it was an R compound....
I'm still all stock except for my Saab 95 17x7 wheels so I could run the 225/45/17 Rival's. Same size wheel as the NA SS so I can stay in their G stock class. I'm thinking TCSS struts later this year for a nice upgrade especially since 1 strut is starting to leak. I don't want to go out of their G stock class plus it's my DD.
So anyone else running the Rival's? Any thoughts on them so far? What alignment specs are people running with them? I'm due for an alignment.

I've heard a lot of good things about the rivals so far
If you are looking for some SS/TC struts I have some adjustable Koni's for sale:

I don't know much about the fitment of a TC strut on a SC car, but if you can use the stock SC spring these shouldn't bum you out of Gstock.

These tires are great! Sunday we had our first regular event with about 100 cars. FTD was a '07 Porsche GT3 RS at 66.3 seconds. My best was 73.3 seconds. Not bad at all! 8 runs, zero cones which is a first for me. LOL My last 5 runs were within about .4 seconds too. The Rivals really let you know if they are happy or not. I started the fronts at 37psi and even that wasn't enough to prevent them from rolling over. Even at 41psi hot they were rolling more than they should which really surprised me. The rears are happy at 34-37 it seems. With my PAX time of 59.9 I was only 2.8 seconds off the fastest PAX time and just 2 seconds off the GT3 RS which was driven by a very solid SCCA national driver. Another top driver at the event in a '07 Porsche 997 C2S was just .2 seconds faster than me for his PAX. Wow.... who'd think it!
The little Cobalt surprised and impressed quite a few! I'm still learning how to drive a fwd car fast so there's still plenty of improvements to make for sure.
Great tire!
