3rd brake light needed?

Ok so on June 12th i make the long ass journey from Halifax to Edmonton in the balt. I got a hold of XC that makes CF trunks. They are located in Ont. so im going to pick the trunk up..they knocked $50 off the price for some reason. So it will cost me $450. Made my mind up that i want the CF Trunk cuz i went wingless but never got a new trunk so i have 4 holes on on my trunk.

However. This new trunk does not come with a 3rd brake light. What are my chances of getting a ticket in Edmonton for not having a 3 brake brake light? I been trying to come up with ideas for lights but iiunno. Either i can find someone to cut a hole in the cf trunk to put the light in, or buy some red lights and put it around my license plate and wire it to the brakes or something else. What do you guys think?

yea thats what my buddy i work with said. His car is old and doesnt have it. I'm just wondering if ill get in any trouble without it. I have my tail lights tinted but not the 3rd brake light which keeps everyone happy. Havent decided if im going to remove the tint or not...iiunno how blacked out lights would look with cf. But anyways, im hoping i can get away with it.

3rd brake light is more for a safety thing that the car manufacturers put on, but it is not MANDATORY to have one.

well thats good. Like i said, im thinking about taking the tint off the tail lights for 2 reasons. A. Safety (since i wont have the 3rd light) and B. i dont know how it would look with a cf trunk with tinted lights to this darkness....

I edited the pic also to get rid of the holes in the trunk..lol

I plan on buying the same trunk. I was under the impression that the third light had to be there so I was just going to rig it up in the back window like some cars have. Guess not now haha.

that was one of my other options...would probably have to cut a piece of my tint off the window though

It is technically against the law but most of the time, Edmonton cops have more important things to do than bother with little things like that. I can't recall the exact law but after a certain year, all cars produced after that year must be equipped with a third brake light. It is illegal to remove the factory one without placing another one somewhere on your car.

Again, that is only the law and isn't necessarily something the cops look for. Have a pissed off traffic cop catch you doing something stupid though and you could be looking at a hefty fine if he/she decides to get ****...

In that case you'd probably prefer a lady cop...

as someone who is red/green color blind, i'd recommend putting another on, somewhere. the third light is hella useful to someone like me. the intensity of the brake lights isn't always obvious at night, especially if tinted. but, there is no mistaking when the third light goes on.

i'm sure you could find a universal, or one off another car that will fit.

True. And I've seen cars were their other lights were burnt out and the only thing that let me know they were stopping hard was their third brake light.
