Angry Cost of replacing CM (Clutch Masters) screw up

Spec has redone the clutch specific for our cars. I just ordered both the Stage 3 6puck and flywheel combo through The Mustang shop here in calgary along with a new Slave cylinder. Through the Mustang Shop, dealer and trani shop the price tag was as follows:

Spec Stage 3 - 6 puck disk and flywheel = 1256.10 CAD tax included - 10 - 12 working days to arrive

New Slave Cyl. = 259.15 CAD Including Tax - 10 working days to arrive

Labour = 90/hr CAD @ 6.7 hours = 639.00 CAD Including Tax to complete @ local trani shop.

Total cost = 2154.43 CAD Tax Included

Ouch...F king CM (Clutch Masters -1000 reps) LOL

There is a trani shop just up the road from my work on 32 NE in the auto stop across from McCall Lake Golf Cource.

Do you know of anyone else here in Calgary that I might try that has a reasonable rate?

Cheers

Clutch install isn't hard. Just a pain in the ass and long.

On RL Forums, CM is refunded all money for their mistake, you might want to look into that.

I have and all I got was that they weren't aware of any problems and if I wanted I could take the clutch out and send it to them so they could analyze it and then they might send me one in return. So I will replace it with something better and I will never have another CM or CM product go in my car.

So Spec is redoing there clutches? Does that mean they found a fault in the ones before. Any chance we may be getting new clutches to replace our old ones?

Specs are fine. It's the CM's that are bad.

Is CM a big company? If they are, why don't they just suck it up and fix the problem? If they're a small company, shouldn't they try to offer better customer service? It's no secet that the clutches they made for our cars suck a$$...

After hearing about this problem time and time again, I will never buy anything from these guys either for this car or any other in the future...

Bullly is doing as bad as the CMs. Exedy and Spec are the way to go at the moment.

Cool

With all my ranting set aside. The CM clutches are not a bad clutch. the problem stems from the R&D that went into it. I have the CM with a Fidanza flywheel. the combination does not work as I believe you have to shim or shave the step for the CM to work. On the other hand though if that is the case then CM should recommend doing this before installation or going with a complete kit verses mix and matching different components. Now with being in contact with Spec and the Mustang Shop they suggested I go with the complete Spec and Flywheel combo as spec in there R&D realized the first original problem and redesigned there original configuration. I do not know if or when this was done but I thank both Spec and The Mustang shop for there help in making my decision. CM on the other handwas contacted by myself and other members here and the RL forums and there answer to me was pretty much oh well. Then who ever it was that I talked to stated that they weren't aware of any problem either with the Cobalt or RL clutches. Now what ticked me off was that statement because on the RL forum CM is giving the RL fells their money back for the clutches. (is this bull **** or true, I don't know) I do not understand their complacence from CM to rectify this problem and why try to deny it.

Come on CM, own up to the mistake and take care of your once loyal customers.

I agree with you larry in that Clutchmasters clutch are not all bad. It is just obvious that their product for the cobalt wasnt quite ready for release due to the fact of compatability issues. They make clutches for lots of other models of cars and are highly thought of in those markets. Just seems to be the cobalts/redlines where they fucked up.

Im not impressed to hear about their shitty customer service though.

Best customer service i ever delt with was Hewlett Packard Canada. I was having problems with vista on my laptop and i couldnt create a backup disc to reformat in the future. So i phoned HP and bitched and they said they would send me a free copy of vista on disc incase i had to reformat in the future. Well Less than 24 hrs later, fedex was at my door with a package for me from CALIFORNIA and it was my disc. I was surprised the package got from california to my door in less than 24 hrs... i was like WTF!! hahahah

Well i just ordered the Spec Stage 3 with the Spec Flywheel... I'm pretty much doing the same thing as Larry. If anyone knows a better price for switching out the tranny, let me know.

What type of tools would i need to switch out the clutch myself? Is there even a point trying if i dont have a hoist??

You don't need a hoist just something to hold the engine up in the car when you drop the sub frame out. Good luck Just so you know there is a guy on ebay that says he can get the exedy hyper single Kit for $950 shipped to Canada.

These are the guys here

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=170114477617

The part # for the ss/sc GH02SD "IS" the correct part number. ;-) Exedy didn't develop the Stage 1 or 2, but they DID develop the stage 3.

These guys have good feedback and when I initially got in contact with them they told me that Exedy didn't make a clutch for the 2.0l I gave them the part # and they checked it out and got back to me with the reply I just posted.
I talked to speed tech in Calgary what a joke they want over 1700 for the same thing,I don't think I am going to get it off them.

Yeh, Don't buy from Speed Tech. Once you buy from them I found that they were not very cooperative when I tried to make an exchange and they tried to sell Mike a clutch and sold him the wrong one and returned all but 150 bucks for his trouble.
