Trouble Starting.

So my car wouldnt start in this cold weather, so i had a block heater installed and it started ok for a few days, and then yesterday it was dead again even pluged in overnight. They tested my battery and said it was a good battery. So is the battery just not powerful enough? need more cca's?

hmmmm what is the temp there?

Get an Optima Red-Top 35, they are the shit. It's damn cold here in Fort Mac, and my car starts every time. Still a little hesitant, but she always rolls over.

could also be the alternator... but if your radio etc. comes on well go with the suggestions above.

I have had no problems with stock battery (55k on now) and not plugging it in( Doesnt have a block heater) and that has been as low as -40

This too, make sure your fan, stereo, heated seats and all that shit is OFF before you attempt to start it. The car will want to start all of those things at the same time if left on.

Running the stock battery here and have no problems starting the car with the remote start with fan on, heated seats on, and the stereo. :)

To the O/P, I would say it is the battery. Time for a new one!

Also, turn on headlights for a few seconds before starting. They will pull enough juice to heat up the battery. Physics rules.

i think the car actually "de-powers" those so to speak for starting. Im not sure. But i reall reading somewhere in shool that itll send "all the power" to the starter circuit for the start

Well at -40C.....nothing you can do can help the battery in that kind of cold. :D

how much is this red top?

XStorm43 12-23-2008 12:25 PM

Around 150-200 bucks. I ordered mine through The Parts Counter.
