NLS on stock TC trans with 256
LOL, I know this is a no no, But with the slow spooling 256et, how long do i have? I have NLS'd 1 time at the track and ran a 12.8 at 114 with a 2.3 60ft, NT01's. I know its not a good 60ft, but thats what i got. This was the 2nd time i have drag raced, it was all new to me and learning now to launch, Mexico is fun, but now, i have to much to lose.
Anyways, how many of yall have broken your 3.82 trans racing/or NLS?

well whats really bad is I have a set of 4.45 gears, Just have to get them installed. And sending it off isnt really an option right now. A local place say they could do it for $700, which isnt bad, But i know with trans, they are really easy to screw up if you dont know what your doing, And with it being from a GM, iam sure its tricky
But Andrew and CMiller, thanks for the post

What you have to understand is that K04 spools up so fast and the Tq spike that hits the transmissions. same with the ZFR. They just spool up so fast and thats whats breaking stuff.
With the 256 or the 20g, they are slower spooling. I ran 30PSI on my stock turbo, and put down 335 and 425tq, now with a big turbo, my hp is somewhere around 400 and maybe 350tq, so the tq shock to the trans shouldnt be as bad, but at the end of the day, still breakable.
when you start adding parts and tuning, your going to break ****, I know that and just be peparred to buy new stuff! I have Jeff on speed dial!

Some say it's only a matter of time, but on the K04 and trifecta tuned, I've been NLSing for 3 years on that tune ALL gears. 1st-2nd is always the trickiest it seems to be the roughest shift even if it goes off perfectly, but I find it bogs a bit half the time. However, even bogging a bit is faster than normal shifting on the drag strip.
2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th feel good usually.
I'd like to hear more first hand comments from people blowing their tranny's after NLSing. I'd like to know more about the conditions when it happened. Because I'm not so sure that NLSing is what's breaking them. I'm not saying is easy on the transmission, but I feel there is more to the problem.
However If I DO blow my tranny one of these days, I want to get one rebuilt and cryo treated. Then, hopefully, I might not have to worry about it anymore. heh.
