Personal Challenge
Okay, so I own a 06 cobalt LS auto, and a buddy of mine owns a 03 civic ex 5 speed. We've both come to the agreement that were going to see if either one of our cars can reach a 13.5 1/4 mile. My car is still stock and his only has a drop in K&N filter. Just wanted some advice and some.tips. Idk if its ever been done. But we are trying to do this challenge ALL MOTOR. Including no nitrous.
My way of attacking this challenge is completely put the car on an extreme.diet, and getting extremely light weight parts for the thing (flywheel, overdrive pulleys, cam gears, etc) then going for more power and beefing up the stall to maybe a 3000 rpm stall. What would you do?

are you atleast getting a tune before? lol I could hook you up with one if you have a wideband. Tune would help a shitloads. I dont think you'll get into 14s though with being all stock...I would go to the racetrack and try out my car but unfortunately my tires are crap so I dont have any

Well as of right now I'm bone stock. And its a 2.2 ls. So I'm expecting a 16 second run. And I wouldn't mind a tune! I could use something to adjust my air fuel but I don't have a wideband. Maybe I can just set my spark timing... And maybe rid of my airbag light xD

I doubt it does. I've lived in houston for the past years so I'm unaware of the managements changes. But you should go! Or hit me up or something

Buy a different car would be my suggestion if you wont boost. neither one of you will break 14's even if super weight reduction is achieved you dont have a chance of hitting it on stock tires and suspension. As the LT and even that civic are not meant for the 1/4, For the record i held the single cam honda record at UTI drags in a gutted 04 EX sedan(literally spent a day removing EVERYTHING i could) with sticky falken tires back in 03-04, and it was running mid to high 16's! Even nitrous wont help as you dont have the tires or setup to make the car hook on a sticky track! If your really set out it will take time and alot of practice and $$$$. there is no lightweight flywheel it's an auto you have a torque converter! And cam gears and light weight pulleys wont make you gain really anything just free's up drive train loss! start with the basic's a new tune for both motor and trans. And decent tires and see what you get if your really set on your goals! Good luck!

Well then do the basic drag stuff. Sticky front tires and limit the weight transfer to the rear (footballs) and go from there once fully tuned! It's not impossible just not easy! I would like to see it happen just am realistic! lol you should have seen the looks i got beating every other Single cam that was older/lighter and modded when i was stock with tires and weight reduction! But this was also before the FWD serious drag tuner crowd came about allmost 10 years ago! Sub for results!

Gonna be hard to do.
My car makes 193whp all-motor, and runs in a 13.3 @ 99 with a 1.7 60'
It however only weighed 2390lbs.
So if you can cut enough metal off your car to drop ~600lbs, build a full motor that makes 193whp, and build the trans so it won't slow you down....
Then yes its possible....otherwise...not gonna happen.
Been there, done it.....all-motor is a game of efficiency, I have more tied up in suspension and wheels and tires than I do in my motor.
Don't expect to end up with a Cobalt that runs 13.5 on the motor and won't drive you crazy after driving it on the road for 30 mins.
It will be loud, it will be rough, it will run like a bag when its cold out, it basically won't be very pleasant at all.
Your money tho, feel free to chase the dream...but 99% chance it won't happen.
