Talking Most Fun I've ever had in 14.711 Seconds

Race day was Great! I didnt get the camera out and take pics unfortuantly... There was a couple other cobalts there but I didn't see them run. One guy said his is really fast and had an excuse not to run. Haha His "Tires were bad" After driving 70 miles to the track? Haha.

I made 4 runs. My first run was my BEST run. I didn't expect that. Before had, I had posted and read tips from people on here, and on google search. I went arround the water "box" (this was more of just a wet spot at the burn out area) as suggested by people on here. Also ran with 32PSI all arround for tire pressure, I didnt feel like adjusting it since it was a long drive to / from the track. The guy I ran against the first 2 runs had a hard time figureing out the lights. They were useing a Pro Tree for the competitive races, and the test N tune (My catagory) got Full Tree. I was expecting go get 80-90 mph with a time > 16 seconds, since it was my first time. Going down that track was an AWESOME THRILL!
My first two runs were with a friend from work, he was running a Camaro SS (Forgot wich one though) It was his first time racing at the track also.

Run 1:
I seemed to launch ok, a little chirp but no spin/hop, I think I launched from 1500 - 2000.
I screwed up during stageing, was watching the wrong stage lights for some reason
Useing my interceptor I recorded my KR and My Boost. Only KR was when shifting (AkA False Knock)
My Max Boost was in 3rd gear @ 18PSI That's more then my dyno boost!
  • RT = 0.775
  • 60' = 2.542
  • 330' = 6.545
  • 1/8 = 9.691
  • MPH (1/8) = 75.54
  • 1/4 = 14.711
  • MPH = 100.01

Run 2:
Launch went foul when I started Wheel Hopping. I got out of it but then shifted to 2nd WAY too soon, dropping my RPMs to 2000. I was too aggressive on the gas in first. I also almost forgot to shift into 3rd.
  • RT = 0.570
  • 60' = 2.518
  • 330' = 6.855
  • 1/8 = 10.027
  • MPH (1/8) = 77.23
  • 1/4 = 14.964
  • MPH = 100.75

Run 3
After the first two runs, three and four are kind of embarrassing. Ive been having clutch issues, that didnt effect my fist two runs for some reason, but this time they did. Without realising it, the clutch wasnt properly disengageing when pressed. This resulted in me not being able to shift into 3rd gear. I eventually did get it into 3rd though.
  • RT = 0.661
  • 60' = 2.622
  • 330' = 7.040
  • 1/8 = 10.317
  • MPH (1/8) = 71.67
  • 1/4 = 16.073
  • MPH = 90.27

Run 4
My second embaressment. 3rd gear was locked out, i tried to push harder and started to grind gears as if I wasnt pushing the clutch but I was. Pumped the clutch and got it into 3rd finnaly! This time I was running against a mustang. Don't know much about them, but it was running drag slicks and had a 5.0 Litier engine in it. I beat him off the line, but when my clutch acted up he passed me. His overall time was better, he just had a 2.669 second reaction time. (BTW: He ran a 12.42 @ 114.16)
  • RT = 0.806
  • 60' = 2.471
  • 330' = 6.801
  • 1/8 = 10.062
  • MPH (1/8) = 70.75
  • 1/4 = 16.435
  • MPH = 80.33 (Not even fast enough for the flux capicator )

I had alot of fun though. Here is an updated list of mods
  1. ZZP 3" Intake
  2. ZZP 2.85" Pulley
  3. Lucas 42# Injectors
  4. INTENSE PCM with Stage III Tune
  5. ZZP Long Tube Header
  6. ZZP 3" Catted downpipe to stock exhaust
  7. OTTP Stage 1 Heat Exchanger
  8. Ingalls Torque Dampener
  9. Hurst Shortthrow Shifter

I know people say intense tunes will mess up your car, but I havnt found any threads about peoples engines blowing up that have intense tunes. Also people say that 42s are too small for a 2.85" pulley. However, in the next few weeks, I DO plan on getting a ZZP tune, and installing 60# injectors. Also, I plan on getting a new clutch, this one let me down twice. I figure while they got the tranny out for the clutch swap I might as well have them change the transmition fluid.

Drop your front tire pressure for sure next time. Any track worth going to is going to have air available to fill back up before leaving...

That's going to help your 60' times a bunch. They say that for every .1 you cut off your 60', you cut .2 off your 1/4. You have at least .4 to .8 right there.

So quote who you are laughing at. Otherwise people are going to think you're laughing at the OP's times.

Yes
It was my FIRST time. I expected to be slow. Honestly I expeted to be SLOWER more like the 3rd and 4th runs where my clutch was acting up, so I felt cool getting into the 14s on my FIRST try.

Launch is terrible. Work on getting the thing down to a 2.0-2.1 60' and better times will come. Also, get a better tune.

Not too bad man. The first time to the track is really exciting but you are nervous the whole time lol the first time I went to the track all stock I ran a best of 14.8 @99.7mph but I had to make quite a few runs to get there. Eventually you get more comfortable.....then you just have crap days where you cant get traction and your stock clutch doesnt like you anymore and you run a 13.0 @116 Maybe thats just me lol

Next if I were you Id get a new tune because there is more left in that car for sure, and practice your launching, and just go out and have fun.

You should be able to simply walk the car out of the hole at 2500 or so and cut 2.2 60s all day. Try that next time. Not trying to be a dick, but 2.5 60s are about as slow as a car can go, you will pick up a TON of time even going down to the 2.2 area. Good luck.

I was pretty much walking out of the hole like the OP said. I was more or less launching like going from a traffic light, except with higher RPMS and letting the clutch out abit faster, then when the clutch was out, then I got into it. I was afraid of breaking an axle, since I was 70 miles from home and drove my car to the track.

Shifting Observations/ Question though
Shifting 1 - 2 at 7000 puts me in 2nd @ 3500 rpm (35mph)
Shifting 2 - 3 @ 7000 puts my 3rd RPM @ 4410 (70mph)

I finished the race in 3rd gear @ 100 mph (6300 rpm) I realise when you shift, during the shift your not putting power to the track.

Question
Would it be better to ride out 3rd gear to 7000 rpm (between 110-115mph) (Obviously this would finsih out the race)
OR
Would it be better to shift to 4th @ 5300 rpm (after my torque curve) (85mph) wich would put my rpm in 4th gear to 4250, just before my peak torque?
OR
Would it be better to shift to 4th @ 5670 rpm (after my torque curve) (90mph) wich would put my rpm in 4th gear to 4500, at my peak torque?

Leave it in 3rd and ride it out. Shifting to 4th would drop you out of your power and times would suffer severely. These cars like to rev.

Oh wait i found it let me just paste it

"Just got a 14.5@102.

Best time ever so far... "

Please dont go bashing people when youre just 1 sec faster with a supercharged and tuned balt with a smaller pulley and injectors and whatever else im missing. Thanks
