Racing Fuels?

hey all sorry if this is a repeat post but im getting ready to race my 2.2 for the first time after mods tonight and wasnt sure what i should do about fuel..

my though was to just use premium 96 for the track cuz i have a mod box that advances the timing to allow use of premium fuel but i wasnt sure how much better or harmful for that matter some 104 octane would be....will somone please let me know thnx

you will run slower with 104 than 96 for the same reason you would run slower with 96 than 89 without your box. unless it can adjust the timing enough for the extra octane.

well they list use of "premium" for the high power mode on the box but i dnot think that means 104 octane though...lol i think im gonna stick w/ the 96 for now till i get my NOS and need the 104 to stabilize the NOS

You sir are a ricer. It is nitrous not NOS. Your stock Cobalt doesn't need 96 octane let alone 104octane.

Let me guess, you got your "box" off of ebay.

Useful enough??

i was about to hit him with that. nos is just a company only children call nitrous that. and after i looked on their website theyve fallen behind the times. nitrous express makes the good stuff now. if you must abbreviate because of spelling problems it its N2O

wow u guys need to relax...fair enough it is called nitrous...i am aware of this i called it NOS to save time....# 2-im NOT a ricer i am trying to do this upgrade thing as properly as possible and not just adding "sound" to my car...but if u will notice there isn't much more i can do to this car due to limitations by the warranty and the car itself (i.e. no ecu solution availible yet)

granted the "box" we all keep refering to is not an ebay piece like those $20 "chips" i actually ordered it from the mfr. and it cost aroud $180, so i assume it is better than those HP chips ebay has. Ive seen them and im not stupid so i went with the only product i saw that i felt would actually help a little but i never said it was some super tuner box...all i said it that it provides and incr in power which it DOES...however i have no idea how long it will remain effective or how important the whole octane thing is....not to mention there is nothing else out there to do what the lil "box" does and i just wanted whatever i could get right now that wouldn't hurt my car but would pick up the pep....but i do know one thing for certain....aside from ion who can actualy discuss this topic properly....i dont feel like asking for help from u guys again....this is supposed to be an informative and FRIENDLY forum and so far i have seen more just rude responses and name calling (i.e. "Children call it NOS") than any actual useful info to help me out

if this is how most of u will respond to someone who is honestly looking for help during his upgrade process, then i suggest reading it to yourself...laughing if u feel the need... and keeping your retarded opinion to yourself...BUT, if you really want to help and just explain this **** to me instead of flamin me for not knowing all the info ( which is why people join these damn things) then feel free....everyone else like a couple of the above, can just sit and spin and keep out of it. Again this isn't directed at everyone...just the real CHILDREN that see the need to make personal attacks.

See we all really thought you were a childish ricer, hence our comments. This post ^^^ proves you are not.

First thing first, take that box off, your butt dyno is miscalibrated if you think it is giving you more power. Also there is a chance it can burn up your ECU.

Secondly, either buy a nitrous kit now if you want to be quicker or be patient and wait for other parts. Don't get desperate and put whatever is out on your car, wait and put the best products out there on your car.

And last but not least stop throwing money away for 96 octane, run 89 at most.

What about for an SS/SC Stage 2 would 104 be good to use or is it also just throwing money down the drain?

If you have HP tuners than yes because you can tune for the increased octane, if you have stage 2 only more in likely you are throwing money down the drain.

You might want to ditch the 18's if your goal is good performance times, that's way too much rotating mass for a 2.2 N/A, you will be lucky with what you have listed to run consistant low 16's. Put some 15' steelies with drags on the front. That outta be a good start.

throwing your money away with higher octane without it tuned to run it. No damage will occur except maybe to the catalyst converter for running to rich of gas thru a piece that wasn't designed for it.

Rule of thumb is to get rid of the problem early meaning straight pipe that bitch so it doesn't get clogged.

hmmmm....good thought....lol just dont know if the stock rims/tires (which should be lighter) have the traction i need or if the .1 sec i may gain is worth the looks of the stock steelies lol

probably should ask this elsewhere on the forum but is it not true that the s/c kit for the 2.2 j bodies will fit but the ecu is the prob. correct? also arent most cars now equip with those auto sensing ecu's that are always adjusting on the fly? would they not be able to just auto set themselves with a small s/c added? i understand that to get the most out of it u need to tune it but will it even work?

When I went to the track a while ago...

91 Octane = 15.1
104 Octane = 14.8

All in the same night
