what did i do wrong??

so i went to the track last night and here are my times. remember first time to the strip with the cobalt:

RACE 1--R/T .698, 60' 2.576 330' 6.193 1/8TH 10.366 @ 68.77 MPH

RACE 2--R/T .551, 60'2.441 330' 6.674 1/8TH 10.099 @ 69.67 mph

RACE 3--R/T .487, 60' 2.390 330' 6.537 1/8TH 9.893 @ 72.35 MPH

RACE 4--R/T .472, 60' 2.532, 330'6.860, 1/8TH @ 10.369 MPH

RACE 5--R/T .615, 60' 2.547, 330' 6.790, 1/8TH 10.216 @ 69.65 MPH

RACE 6--R/T .594, 60' 2.566, 330' 6.770, 1/8TH 10.161 @ 73.24 MPH

RACE 7--R/T .346, 60' 2.530, 330' 6.723, 1/8TH 10.104 @ 70.46MPH

bolds are the best of each, the track wasnt prepped very good. on my fastest run i hit the rev limiter on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. on each of the runs i spun bad off the start and at each shift

so what do you think. i need to get used to launching a stick.

you need to learn to drive overall. launching is killing you, but so is not shifting good. Banging the rev limiter on your shifts will kill the time.

PWNED!!

just like ralliartist said, take your car out and just keep trying it til you get it right. ur R/T time is very importent and right now its killing you

cruisn 08-10-2008 04:26 PM

r/t doesn not matter unless youy are bracket racing. when you are jsut racing on the track, the timer doesnt start until the car rolls out of staging. you 60 foot times are what is killing you. 1/10th of them is 2/10's of the quarter mile, not sure on the 1/8 but it will make a differnce

If I were you, I'd practice everday on my way to work on the shifting. I would say launching but launching at the track is totally different than on the street. Everday on your way to work, roll out in first and punch it, then bang 2nd and take 2nd up and bang 3rd. If you get good, your car should sound like an automatic because you shift so fast.

my fastest run was the only run that i hit the limiter. the other runs i shifted fine. i shifted pretty fast. i think it was just because i was launching at different rpms. and i was spinning the tires a lot from the start. next time i go i will launch at a lower rpm and slip the clutch more. do you think that will help?

cruisn 08-11-2008 12:03 AM

slip only a little. I go from 2500 rpm and slip aggresivly and leave with very little wheel spin, but I also run 245's so they are heavy and hard to spin

here is a link to my fastest run. if you listen for it you can hear the limiter. dont mind my girlfriend talking lol. it is with a camera phone sorry for the quality.

what would be a good rpm to leave at?

freakta 08-11-2008 01:49 PM

every car is different. Every tire is different. It's just trial and error. Start off where you are drop 500 Rpms. See what happens. You'll have fun and learn. Good luck and be safe
