2010 Cobalt auto trans problem, shift solenoid?

I have a 2010 Cobalt LT with auto trans. For about a month it had trouble shifting from 1 to 2, over revved and shifted hard. This resolved itself but now it won't shift into 4th at all. I have a bi-directional scantool and it is saying PO 0974, 1-2 shift solenoid high circuit. I commanded it to shift the gears and it goes from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 but when it tries to go to 4 it shows command 4 but says it is in 2. I am assuming it has a bad shift solenoid but I have a lot of problems with squirrels eating the wiring on all of my cars so I'm not sure. I'm killing the squirrels as fast as I can but there seems to be a never ending supply, body count is up to 57 in about 2 years.
Are there any transmission experts out there?
Thanks
