about to order a clutch. what all do i need?
alright so my clutch started slipping. but thats now why im getting a new clutch. big power in the future. lolz. anyway, im going with the zzp stage 4 clutch.
what all should i get to get the clutch replaced correctly? should i get a new TOB or anything? rear main seal? i have no idea. right now my car has 23k miles and its a 2010. i will be getting the stock flywheel resurfaced. also, on zzp's website it has an option for an upgraded throw out bearing. should i get that too? thanks for the help! also if you just "think" you know, dont bother answering, i want people who have done this before or do this for a living. |
rear main seal is going to be fine with such little mileage.
additional to the clutch you will need: throw out bearing 8 new flywheel bolts clutch pipe(they are know to leak and it's a good idea to replace it while you are in there. they are like $8 anyway) |
cool. will i need to swap tranny fluid or anything as well? i probably should anyway, i usually do when i hit 20k on my cars just as a precautionary thing (i used to own hondas).
how hard do you think install is if you "do it yourself" |
yes you should change the transmission fluid as well. no offense but what kind of mechanical background do you have? and the proper tools? my first clutch job took me 9.5 hours on a lift cause i didn't know wtf i was doing and i had to take my time.
|
well i am a helicopter mechanic...
but cars and helicopters are 2 diffrent things. i have access to a lift and tools since they have an "auto skills center" on base so far the hardest thing i did on my car was install my intercooler and ottp rotated mounts. which wasnt hard at all. i successfully installed a downpipe on a mazdaspeed 3 before by myself once tho  that is a BITCH. anyway, yea... wondering if i should tackle this with some friends or just pay a shop |
if you are any type of mechanic you can do it. take your time and have some helpful friends. follow the GM build book for the lsj. they have the clutch job detailed in there. i know its for the lsj but it's the same crap really. good luck.

thanks.
if i can get it done in 4-5 hours i will be happy. |
it really isnt that hard. The hardest part of it is getting the trany to line back up when installing. you can do it yourself but its kinda a pain in the ass. i reccomend a buddy. No lift is really needed as long as you lift the car up high enough to remove the sub frame and slid the tranny out. You dont have to get the flywheel machined but look at it when you take the tranny out, if its blued or has any unevened surfice have it machined. any more questions.

i can do it plus the main seal in three hours beer included

lnf clutch 3-5 hourz i myself cuz there easy lol...... lsj thats from the north with rust everywhere 7 hrs. .. hahahahah
