Thank-you

Mine was red

Snail_SS 09-02-2018 05:26 PM

Its red but fyi the old number has been discontinued and it's really hard to find I got some recently on my dealership and I had to pay 32 each bottle

..

Mines been red in the past, but it seems the new fluid is amber color. I have 2, part numbers, 19351859 and 88862472. Both amber. This makes me paranoid. Anyone in the know wish to chime in?

I recall mine was amber colored when I did my fluid 2 months ago. AC Delco fluid that the dealer recommended based on my VIN. I'll grab the PN when I get home.

88862472 is the old number and its fill for life according to gm but they have since discontinued that number. That fluid is red

The new number I'm not sure what it is nor the color

 Fill for life, greatest sale deceit ever created

Snail_SS 10-09-2018 11:51 AM

Lol gotta agree with you on that

keep in mind that in the eyes of the manufacturer, life of the vehicle is the warranty period. in their eyes, once the warranty is up the vehicle should be discarded and a new one purchased

My dealer invoice says PN for this fluid is 88862472 or 10-4104. Bought this stuff back in January 2018

I also think the "fill-for-life" scheme was based off the assumption that a large percentage of people never changed their fluid anyway so they decided to put in quality "long-life" fluid and no longer considered transmission fluid changes a design constraint. Not an ideal situation obviously but a compromise.

The new fluid is indeed clear/amber in color. I gasped when I filled my transmission a few months back and saw it wasn't red but i checked with the man Powell himself and he confirmed that it is still the same, correct fluid.

The old gl4 fluid was 8862472 and was usually red, the new 19351859 that replaced is usually amber. I think the color depended on who manufactured it bc I have seen both. If anyone plans on needing any in the future you better get it on order, its no longer a stocked item and is direct ship only (shipped from manufacturer, takes between 3days to two weeks) . I expect it will go full discontinue within a year or two. ATM I get it for 13 dollars a quart, not sure what reg price is.

Do you have an specs on the GL4 fluid? I'm wanting to find another source for similar fluid. Had been looking at Motul's Gear or Gear 300.

Kolt 10-10-2018 03:23 PM

Not really, they don't give a manufacturer specification code like engine oil in si or our parts catalog breakdown. All I can get is these descriptions. I have two bottles of the new stuff on order right now for someone so when it comes in ill see if there is something on the label but i don't remember there being anything on the others i have gotten

Little off topic but I put Motul 300V 5w-40 in my motorcycle and it was neon green and smelled amazing.

I second what Adrian said, the new fluid is pretty much clear. I had some old fluid (red with the old part number) and the new stuff is pretty clear. I heard it's also synthetic but I can't confirm that. As others have said the old stuff is discontinued.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I'm on deployment and access is slow and limited.

Anyone know anything about this https://genuinesaab.com/catalog/prod...products_id=89
Here is anpther link to one on amazon. Saab product that was used int the turbo 9-3 should be fine for the Cobalt I would assume, if you can't find the ACDelco products?
