Balance shaft chain tensioner question

My upper timing chain guide bolt broke off in my LSJ recently so I’m in the middle of replacing it. Once I got the timing cover off I noticed the balance shaft chain had a bit of extra slack and is MAYBE one tooth out of time. I’m honestly not sure. I’ve had a misfire for the longest time that I just can’t figure out so I’m thinking that may be the issue.

Anywho, I’m just curious as to how much slack is acceptable for operation. I can post pics if need be.

thanks!!

Can you still see the painted links on your balancer chain? If you can see the marks I would just retime the balance shafts just to be sure.

I can see the painted links yes, I’ve spun the motor 3 ish rotations and it looks like they’re even half a tooth off somehow?? This is my first time doing anything with timing so please forgive my lack of knowledge about it haha.

Sometimes if the tensioner loosens up one of the balance shafts can skip. Just line up the painted marks with the dot on the crank and the arrows on the balance shafts

How exactly do I go about retiming it? What all do I have to disassemble to get started? Or do I just take the tensioner off and literally just move the chain back one tooth?

There are plenty of videos on youtube about how to change the chains etc, worth a watch

Or just delete the balancer shafts entirely .https://www.bkracing.shop/product/cl...haft-delete/80
