Which Clutch

I need a new clutch? Which clutch is recommend by the older generation cobalt ower, I dont want no kid in here. I'm debating between the GMPP but how much torque is that clutch rated for? Also thinking a Light weight flywheel 8.5lb opinions???

Well, I'm 54, that old enough?

I put a SPEC Stage 2+ in my LNF a year ago with the matching LW FW. No issues once properly bled but it moans a bit when cold. Holds 437 ft/lb tq. Still dailydrivable on my old rickety knees. :D

If you do it, get an LNF throwout bearing regardless of the clutch you choose.

IIRC the GMPP clutch is an F40 disc with an LNF pressure plate. I don't know the tq rating.

hteres people with the gmpp clutch that are turboed and making in the higher 300s whp and tq i dunno buts its up there so it should hold good power

so you got the fidanza flywheel? did you notice a difference in the revs since it's lighter? Also whats the spec 2 feel like? I'm selling my exedy hypersingle

Not the Fidanza, the SPEC that matches the clutch. The Stage 2+ is a bit stiffer than the LNF stocker, but not unbearable to drive on the street. I went from the 45 lb stock flywheel to the LW one so it def revs faster, but kills taking off easier also. Takes a bit of getting used to. I don't think I'd do a LWFW again myself but I'm not ripping it apart to put the stocker back on either.

I'm only 21 so I guess my opinion is not valid

lol jsoh don't be a smart cookie. you know what I mean. kids coming in who didn't even buy the car parents bought it. those type of kids

BLAZIN07SS 03-19-2011 09:49 AM

Haha honestly the gmpp is great. And I would use a stock flywheel with it. It's what I have right now and it's awesome.

-gmpp clutch kit
-new stock flywheel
-(8) flywheel bolts
-cobalt clutch pipe

Everything you need for a smooth install

you get that all off CED?

aweadSS 03-19-2011 09:57 AM

hey man i just recently put in a new clutch and i went with the clutchmasters fx400 stg 4 6 puck clutch holds 180% over stock. It has a great pedal feel and grabs really really quick. I still DD mine and not a single problem. I also put a brand new stock flywheel in. Didnt go with lightweight bc ive heard of problems with it. And if you are to do a flywheel i was also told to keep the clutch and flywheel from the same company. I mean thats just what i was told its totally up to you man! Good luck hope i helped a little

Got my gmpp upgraded clutch from gmpartsdirect.com and it works great. Clutch pedal travel is slighty shorter but it holds the power with all my mods just fine and drives great. I put a new STOCK flywheel in too.

i always read that its better to stick with the stock fly wheel. keeps momentum when shifting because it has more weight (inertia). plus it prolly is a bit tougher since its not LW.

I just had the Spec 3+ put in last week and so far I am very impressed! Same engagement point, wee bit stiffer pedal and no noise, moans or chatter at all. I see you are in S/C, if you don't plan on getting a TVS and meth stick with the GMPP upgraded clutch, it's a VERY good clutch for the money and still has that light pedal feel (necessity for us old farts lol). The person that installed my clutch (John Powell <---another old fart) has a TVS and runs the GMPP clutch and it holds no problem at all in his car.

well i already am running meth, plan on building a head and swapping it. Debating on the tvs or a future development of a twin screw for our cars
