AMSOIL Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90
so why wont that work? Says the same thing as the GM bottle's, api gl-4
and I just bought a 08 SS/TC last week, changing the fluids and what came out of the trans was red as can be..... I think I am going to go with the amsoil stuff.

In for an answer on the Amsoil fluid as well. I see plenty of good reviews on the fluid for other cars but I can't seem to find any info, good or bad, involving our trans.

what color is this 88862472 fluid? also read that the LSD is self contained is there a way to check its fluid I think either my trans fluid lubes the axle bearings or that. mines making noise just started about 2 weeks ago and its anoying

The color of the trans fluid is dark red. Atleast mine was that I got from CED last week at the Mega Meet. The weird thing though is I changed mine yesterday and I only needed about 1.4-1.5 quarts to fill it. Not the recommended 1.7 that Mr. Powell said it takes. Trans does feel a tab bit smoother though. Oh yeah, and that drain plug is a b**** to get off. Had to go to Autozone and buy a shorter 8mm Allen than what I had, and I still had to grind it down to fit it between the frame and the plug. All in all, everything was totally worth it. I Saved myself $190.00 and it feels better than before.

Good writeup! I was going to put that Mobil 1 gear oil in my tranny, but then i said wait up, it says GEAR oil lmao. Went to gm and got the tranny fluid they said my car takes. I spent $60 with tax. But was alot more worth it then putting something that isnt meant for the car lol

I was going to change my tranny fluid today with the Royal Purple MaxGear oil I had bought a few months ago. After reading a few threads this morning I decided not to use it anymore because of the friction modifier additives. What would be a better choice MT-90 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil or 75W90 NS GL-5 Gear Oil?

I think that's why it won't work necessarily. I'm going to give it a shot anyway as I've been going everything Amsoil since I became a dealer myself (engine flushes, signature series 5w-30, coolant/antifreeze, P.I. fuel system cleaner, etc...) And it retails for about half of what the ACDelco stuff sells for.
IIRC, it's the same as the SRT4, the FSM calls for adding a bottle of friction modifier, that is absolutely not needed.
BTW, John (Powell), I still have those GM Performance upgraded roll pins you gave to me. I never put them on the car before I sold it.

I haven't had my Cobalt for years now, but I should have been more specific at the time. They sell individual bottles of friction modifier, you do not need that.

I have a 2010 cobalt ss. I have an upgraded intercooler,charge piping,CAI,catless DP muffler delete and tuned to 24psi trifecta. Just as a baseline im new to the forum and I've only had the car for about 3 months. Something is wrong with my tranny. When im granny shifting its fine, but once if i shift from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th the shifter feels all weird. Like 4th is a lot further back than normal and there is barely any tension shifting into 3rd or 5th. But it corrects itself, as long as i dont pull the shifter too hard through gears its fine. It grinded once when shifting into reverse, but only once. Please help, anyone that knows what this might be

So I'm a little confused. First I have put the Royal Purple into my transmission as per a different thread I read a little while back. Then I found this thread , obviously I NEED to get that stuff outta there. I went to the dealer tonight, told the parts counter person I want 3 quarts of 75w90 (forgetting to take the part number from the OP). Parts counter person says "ok I'll be right back". Comes back and says "sir what year is your car as I have a couple different types, standard and full synthetic" I tell her it's an 05. She says "do you have your VIN?" I say no but I can go out and write it down.
Bring it back to her and she proceeds to type in the computer and says "let me send this to the printer I'll be right back." She comes back with this printout of all kinds of numbers and vehicle descriptions and the thing says my car is supposed to take Dextron III auto trans fluid!!!!!!!!! I say to her I don't think that's correct. To which she says "well you can go check with service as I'm looking in a parts catalog and maybe it's different in their service catalog."
So off to service dept. I go with this crazy printout, tell the service guy the situation, hand him the printout, and he goes back in the service bay area. Comes back a couple minutes later and says "yup that's the same information that I have." So WTF is this something new that GM is doing with our cars now??????? Or is a parts counter person, and service writer at my local Chevy dealer smoking left handed cigarettes on break?

F23 getrag trans in 2.2 2.4 cobalts uses atf dexron 3
F35 GM saab powertrain trans in 2.0 all sc and tc use 75W90 the LNF part number is backwards compatible and is best for you as cold shifting is enhanced.
you need 2 quarts of: 88862472 LNF Transmission Fluid
nothing else. GM dealer staff can be lazy and misinformed
ps go to Crate engine depot in grayslake Ill (Rock chevrolet) t they may not be far from rockford ill i have no clue as to geography but at Rock auto they do have a clue what to put in your car, no doubt.

Thank you Mr. Powell, I wish I could post pics of this printout, it says right on it. Manual Transaxle (2.0L L4 Supercharged Engine) (DEXRON III). So should I expect my trans to meltdown soon as I put the RP in it? I haven't been beating on the car (i.e. hard launches or banging gears) since I put the stuff in, just normal driving. Been about 500 miles since I did.
