just went to GM to get trans fluid for my trans swap, got a LSD TC trans and they told me that the part number 88862472 wasnt in there system but when they looked up an 08 ss/tc the part number was 88862473, i dont know if they updated there oil or not. but looked it up and this is what it is, http://www.acdelcochemicalcatalogue....hp?prod_id=151
anyone have any info on this????
anyone have any info on this????
You were trying to find an american part number in the canadian system.
Your owners manual would have the correct part number.
I posted a couple above your comment;
Incase anyone cares;
I just went looking for this stuff;
The Canadian part number does differ from the US part number;
US = 88862472
CND = 88862473
If any mod/admin sees this, it might be worth adding this tidbit tothe first post in this thread - especially since the F35/LNF trans fluid replaces/supercedes the F35/LSJ trans fluid.

I put the 88862473 fluid into my car a couple weeks ago when I replaced my axles and seals, and overall it didn't change from the ~6month old ~8k mile 88862472 fluid that I drained out of the tranny.

I can vouch that RP is not good. I had slight syncho issues before changing to RP and then was immedietly better but after a couple of mo. it got considerably worse. Also developed a leak coming from the input shaft.

I've been reading this thread and didn't exactly see an answer to this, I have an 06 SS/SC and I'm replacing the transmission. I have 2 quarts of redline mt85, can that be used in my cars transmission or do I need somethin other than that?

8) IF you feel the need to go aftermarket on the fluid, the ONLY fluid I recommend is - Red-Line 75W-90 NS GL-5 Gear Oil, and I ONLY recommend it for the SS/SC guys. You NEED 75W-90 NS, if you plan on using this fluid, because there is regular 75W-90, which has friction modifiers. It does not matter if you have G85 or not. Like I said earlier, our limited-slip is a sealed unit. No fluid you put in there, will see it.
Just go with the LNF fluid

I would advise against using GL5 fluid. Yea, it can work but it tends to shorten the life of synchros. Sometimes, GL5 fluid can worsen gear engagement. Nissan has gone through this and I believe Hyundai/Kia. I know my trans in my Xterra is needing serviced. I swapped to Redline MT90 by recommendation, and it actually shifts much better. Yet, the damage is still there. If only you could have seen how sparkly the old fluid was. Sometimes have to drive it like an old truck, hunting for that right gear mesh.

75-90w ns
07 ss/sc exhaust mods k&n cold air intake. Ok I guess I have to ask the dumb question when you say 75-90 NS gear oil what does the ns stand for. I have looked at lucius full synthetic but is says it has an additive package royal purple has additive can I even use synthetic is that what the ns is for

It had 58000 when I bought it. Oh does the differential fluid ever need changed. I know that the company seems to guaranty their stuff for life. Thanks again for all your help

AMSOIL Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90
so why wont that work? Says the same thing as the GM bottle's, api gl-4
and I just bought a 08 SS/TC last week, changing the fluids and what came out of the trans was red as can be..... I think I am going to go with the amsoil stuff.

Resurrecting this thread... I have a question; also asked here: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l...ml#post7710205
I had to change the driver side axle seal, trying to refill, doesn’t seem I’m getting enough fluid in. Neighborhood Dealership is closed until Monday, autozone no help.
Where do I fill? I found the two plugs on the driver side, tried filling from the upper plug, but I couldn’t get in the amount that came out from the axel seal. Is there a filler plug on the top? Or is the kinda-close tutorial wrong for my transmission? All I can see is a sensor or something on the top of mine; I don’t see an 8mm plug like the two on the side.
2009 Cobalt SS TC, should be F35 MU3, according to the dealership after looking up my VIN’s last 8. Wiki says its the MC2.
Thanks in advance.

Well, while I was away, I was still reading around on the forum, and I finally noticed.. Here in the drivetrain section, we don't even have a sticky thread, with given information, for the F35 (SS/SC) transmission fluid, or even for the F35 (SS/TC).
I recently bought the fluid for mine, with not much help from previous threads. I would guess that over 85% of them contained incorrect information. We have people using the wrong fluid, with the wrong additives in the fluid, wrong weight of fluid, wrong amount of fluid, etc.
Also, the How-To that we DO have for the F35 (SS/SC) transmission, was completely incorrect. The OP who made the How-To, used Mobil-1 straight GL in his transmission.
We need to offer correct information for people on this forum who are in search of learning about this car.
On to the information..
1) The F35 (SS/SC) does take a 75W-90, GL-4, transmission fluid.
2) You DO NOT, I cannot make this any clearer, DO NOT, want friction modifiers! The friction modifiers will not allow the synchronizers in the transmission to work properly. This goes for BOTH the SS/SC and the SS/TC.
3) As for the limited-slip.. Ours are sealed. They are "Quaife ATB" differentials, and the lubricant does not affect them. AT ALL! This is why you DO NOT need limited-slip additives! This goes for BOTH the SS/SC and the SS/TC.
3a) *Side note* - This is why the How-To, (On this forum), is incorrect. The OP used 75W-90, WITH limited-slip additives. He is throwing differential gear fluid, in his transmission. The fluid is too slippery for proper synchronizer operation.
4) Even though the F35 comes with GL-4, you might want to use an aftermarket GL-5, if you feel need be. You can, although, make sure it is the correct specs as mentioned above! MOST GL-5's meet or exceed GL-4 specs.
5) The F35, (SS/SC) transmission, comes with fluid part number 21018899.. While The F35, (SS/TC) transmission, comes with fluid part number 88862472.
6) SS/TC guys, I would ABSOLUTELY NOT run anything other than part number 88862472, this is the most current GM fluid for your transmission.
7) SS/SC guys, feel free to use part number 88862472, in fact, I HIGHLY recommend it. It is a 75W-85 GL-4. It is the new "standard", over the old 21018899.
8) IF you feel the need to go aftermarket on the fluid, the ONLY fluid I recommend is - Red-Line 75W-90 NS GL-5 Gear Oil, and I ONLY recommend it for the SS/SC guys. 9) DO NOT use Royal Purple, or any of that synchromesh garbage. Either stick with the 2 factory numbers I provided, or the Red-Line fluid. NO IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S!!
10) The transmission fluid should be changed around, in my opinion, 60k. As for the amount, you will need to buy 2 quarts. However, it will only take 1.7 quarts.
11) The code for the SS/SC transmission is F35-MC2. The code for the SS/TC transmission is F35-MU3.
Feel free to ask questions. I believe everything has been clearly answered, though.
