Funny noise
Its a 2007 LS auto.
Only when its in drive. I hear a woop woop sound it gets faster and louder the faster I go. Its really loud when I go around turns. I jacked the front end up and checked all the suspension parts and the bearings they are all good. When I moved the wheel as if it was moving forward it makes a kinda squealing noise that seems to be coming from the trans. Since I had both wheels of the ground I put it in drive and I was listening and I am 99% positive its coming from the trans. What do you think? I have an appt with the dealer on friday since the drivetrain is still under warranty. The car has 87k on it and my commute to work is basically a path through the woods up and down a mountain with twists and turns for 25 miles so its hard on the car Also it sometimes doesn't want to shift into OD when I am on the highway. I changed the fluid @ 50k. And...At first I thought it was the tires or wheels but I rotated them and is still was happening. I recently had a front end alignment too. |
So I had to reschedule my car appt til the 27th. So if anyone?!? Has any idea's....

i would have said wheel bearings. mine makes the same noise. but you said they were all good. so im not sure.

I always start with the simple stuff first... I was taught that working on diesels, which always have problems with electrical grounds. Here is my idea I hope it helps...
Do all the wheels still have the balance weights on them? Sometimes they fall off and that will make your whomp whomp whomp sound. You probably aren't going fast enough in reverse to experience it. Just a thought before you take you car to the stealership and waste time just have a quick look. |
Its been going on since my last set of tires. And I had a front end alignment in June when I got the car inspected and my new tires put on. I have no play in the wheels at all. When I had it inspected if it was a suspension/wheel component they would have caught it. I hear the sound up until I stop so its not a speed issue. The dealer shop isn't going to charge me anything regardless so its work a shot having a pro look at it. They know I do my own work. Every time I have had it in for something and it turned out not to be under warranty they just said this is what it is. This is how much the part will cost. Have a nice day.
Thanks for the input. And there isn't really any vibration. Just a tiny bit when I accelerate. |
Cool well good luck bro. Hopefully its an easy fix and not something bad. Could be a trans mount or something too. But keep us posted.

sub'd. same thing is happening to me, and i have an apt on the 27th also. lmao

Well. I feel like an ass. I checked for play in the wheels and had none so I ruled any of that out. It ended up being my passenger side wheel bearing.
Now get this. ONLY in 07 did they cover wheel bearings in the power train warranty so, I got it all fixed for free. |
