Gearbox/shifter bearings problem...
so i was racing a turbo balt the other day, and off the line, got a good start and when i went to shift to second, my clutch slipped and my rpm's stayed at like 6.5k, so i let me drop and slammed it to the next gear once i got moving again. We get to the end and i go to shift it into 1st and i notice that have to push my stick waaay farther than i normally do ( i have a Hurst STS) then i pop it into neutral and notice that there is huge play in the stick, i can move it in a full circle in neutral. then i run it thru the gears, i still have them all, but there is massive amounts of play in every gear. Did i rape my shifter bearings? Did i destroy my gearbox? i still have my gears so i'm assuming my transmission is still in once peice.... any advice would be hugely appreciated!

haha, your clutch messes up once. so you race again? not smart d00d!
nah this was all one run,
lol did you win at least??
no...:( mines an 07 ss/sc and its my friends 08 ss/tc he always gets me haha
you still have all your gears so roll pins are intact. its driving so there is nothing interally.
jack the car up. take off drivers side wheel. look around till you find these. and make sure those two sleeves did not pop out of that rubber bushing. if they did...just push them back in, they go in by hand but require a little fore. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...Turbalt015.jpg |
what exactly are they?
they are the shift linkages that go from the shifter cables to the arms on the transmission.
so if i were to go to a shop, what would i tell the guy? i'm still learning how to do stuff on my own, and this isnt something i want to mess with honestly

i had never done it either. hell i thought my trans had a broken roll pin problem. all the shit i did to my old sc i did myself. and now this turbo one i've already taken apart the fuse box, worked on the trans, took apart and cleaned all the intercooler piping and put it back together. none of which i had any previous experience doing... i've read the howto's off of here and did it myself. took apart the fuse box the other day without help. just read ralli's how to.
this is really easy to do step 1. jack up car. step 2. take off wheel step 3. find linkage step 4. push back in. step 5. reverse steps 1 and 2. |
haha that is idiot proof thanks homie ill def try that
i can't say for sure that that is your problem. but if it is, thats your fix.
maybe this will help clarify, on the way to work today i lost my 1st, 3rd and 5th gear... i can make do with 2nd 4th and reverse, but you know...its kinda worrying.
yep. i'm more confident about my theory now. except in that picture instead of the top one(the one the hand is on) it'll be the one below it.
