Help! F23 Trans issue
Alrighty i have the f23 transmission (cobalt ss 2.4L)
I recently upgraded to a spec stage 3+ clutch and a fidanza Lightweight flywheel. In the process, i bled the brakes and the clutch, replaced the fluid, aswell as draining the transmission and replacing the fluid with a dexron 3 compatible fluid.
Before my clutch/flywheel/new tranny fluid my 3rd gear would never grind, now that i've upgraded, i grind third gear. But NOT all the time. Only when i get on it. If the car is cool and i'm just cruising around its perfectly fine. But if i start getting on it a bit (going into PE and such) it will eventually start to grind when i try to shift into third gear (wether it be an upshift or downshift).
I'm really hoping this is a transmission fluid issue, but i'd like some input. the first tranny fluid i tried was synthetic and i thought, maybe it was doing its job too well and it was a little too slick for the gears. so i drained the synthetic and went with a non synthetic but i still have the problem. Well if dexron three was in there before and was not giving me any problems i figured i'd just grab some from the dealership and put the OEM stuff back in.
SO i go to my chevy dealership and they tell me that they dont even use dexron 3 anymore. they use dexron 6. So now im just plain confused.
The tranny calls for 1.7 quarts of fluid, if it is slightly overfilled (closer to two quarts) could that cause the problem?. From what i've read the clutch pedal is self adjusting so i'm doubting i have overlooked adjusting the pedal etc. i'm just plain out of ideas. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
and like i said, i had NO probelms with gear grinding before the clutch/flywheel and fluid changes, so i dont think its anything within the tranny itself (although i'm not ruling that out completely)

were is your clutch grabbing (is the pedal close to the floor or closr to the top when the clutch grabs)??? if its grabbing near the floor, you likley have air in the hydralics, and the clutch isnt fully releasing.
another thing, was the clutch disk free on the input shaft??? did you put a slight bit of grease on the input shaft??? the disk may be hanging up slightly and not floating away from the flywheel and causing the grind.

the clutch grabs closer to the top, fairly certain there is no air in the system. (bled it the old fashion way and also bled it with a vaccuum bleeder)
