a very interesting and informative post... I haven't had much of a problem with clutch slippage... but I'll alter my driving style a bit and see what happens.
A little sacrifice of fuel economy for clutch performance seems alright in my book.

Well, then now I know why I have no slip! I shift everyday at a between 3500 and 4000 rpm, and I do quick engagement the clutch is either in or out its hardly ever slipping. Oddly enough I can powershift second gear with no problems and I'm prolly in the 270-280 whp range, so it just carries the spinning from first gear into second gear

dude, i really think your on to something here.
I always shift above 3k and i rarely have slippage unless i make the mistake myself.
Id seriously suggest everyone try this so we can get more raw data.

I am not saying that you are wrong in suggesting changing driving habits to fix this issue, but I refuse to change my driving habits because of a crappy clutch. IT IS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE THIS WAY! All you guys driving a stick for the first time keep this in mind. Slippage at 12k? RIDICULOUS! If my clutch blows out at 12k and I am still no where near changing the stock rubber (with tread wear rated at 200) then that says something...I dont abuse my car and this problem should be fixed. I dont want to drive like a 16 year old just to make my car run right *no offense new drivers*, awful.

'07 SS/SC, month old, 4000 miles, four passes down the track, always shift at or above 3000rpm's and no clutch slip unless it's me doing it. Also got stuck in traffic for over an hour, never got out of first gear, hell..never got above 5mph for about 6 miles. That got old about a mile into the traffic jam and I can attest to the clutch feel being pretty hard. I was trying to teach the wife and she said she has to stand on the clutch w/ all her weight. At the track if I didn't miss second (first time running a manual down the track) it would chirp the tires...Zed

this is my actually first stick car about 8k miles and no clutch slipping and i shift round like 3500 normal driving up hills i may take it to like 4k but still its pretty good wit me (the clutch)

High i only started driving a stick a few week ago when i bought my 07 cobalt ss /sc. when you talk about shifting at 3k are you talking 1st to 2nd, hard launchs or just any gear in general?

Hmmm...I shift at 3k to 3300 and have 18k miles on my car. For about 13,000 miles i was pullied. I had exahsut and intake since i hit 1500 miles on the car. I think you haev something there. My clutch still grabs pretty well too. But it's on its way out though next track visit lol

I'm at 10,000 miles and shift normally at 2500-3000rpm. Never had any issues with the clutch. I also shift pretty quickly and engage in spirited driving from time to time. It seems like the nicer you try to be with the clutch the touchier and jerkier it is, and I'm no noob to the manual so it's not jerking because I don't know how to drive.

Well thanks every one. I realy thought I would.get flamed a lot but every one seams to agree with this so far.
I think after a few more peopletest this and a few more conferm they drive like this all the time we should sticky this for every one.
Also I have been rev matching my down shifts 90% of the time the last few K.
That seams to help as well.

I have 30xxx mi. On my I brought this and learned to drive on it. I although have sporadically driven stick before. It was vehicles for work. I will agree the little bit more you put into atround 2500-3000k rpm, it seems to be more responsive. This includes some spirirted driving, couple several trips down the strip and severalauto cross laps, I also heel toe and rev match.

Dude that's exactly how I drive, my shift point is 3K. I have only slipped the clutch once, but my tires were mad spinning in first so it was expected!
I say this is a fix.

Well, when I bought my first REAL car (my Probe SE dont count LAWL) I was sitting at the dealership with my parents and I was attempting to choose from a 2004 SE-R Auto and a 2004 SE-R Spec-V 6 speed. Somehow my parents talked me into getting the Auto. I regreted that decision from day 1. Every Spec-V I raced, even when my SE-R was modde, I lost too. I even lost to a stock 2.2 Cobalt w/ a 200 sub box (LAWL ORT). At that point I decided I wanted a stick, and I wanted to go fast. I was looking at V6 tiburon, SRT-4, and Cobalt SS. Also regular WRX. Well I went w/ my balt, and have been happy ever since.
Ill be honest and say at first i was the ABSOLUTE WORST stick driver on teh planet, I mean seriously, I sucked bad. Took me like a week to get fluent with it.
Now IM glad, I drive stick, atleast when I am outside of bumper to bumper traffic. Its fun when you race, and to be honest it keeps me from falling asleep. Yes, I had problems falling asleep in my car (knock on wood I aint crash) but ever since I started driving stick, i have never had that issue. Durring my rental time a few days ago w/ the 2.2 I almost fell asleep... Damn auto's!

almost 50'000km and no slips ever and yes I beat the **** out of my car.
Shifting over 3 k most of the time at least in 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd.
It's a Chevy they work better if you beat the **** out of it from day one!
