Opening in bell housing???

Hey guys. Just got me sons cobalt ss out of the impound. Seems our mechanic skipped town and just put the car out on the street unfinished and the city towed it. He did the engine swap but didn't finish the job.

I had to bleed the clutch and a few other things.

long story, I dropped the 8 mm wrench into the opening in the bell housing. Was there supposed to be a cover over this?

any suggestions to get the wrench out?

any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know which hole you're referring to. There is an inspection hole on the side that may or may not have a cover and it's NBD if it's open.

To get the wrench out, I suggest a telescoping magnet. If you don't have one, get one. Absolutely essential tool for stuff like this.

yup, I think it's an inspection hole of some kind. I can see the top of the t.o.b supply pipe/line in there as well as the top of the flywheel. I have a great snake magnet, but have not had any luck yet. I'm gonna tale a look with an Android scope tomorrow.

thanks for the feedback.

You may also be able to get an angle on it by pulling the starter. An inspection camera that plugs into your phone (Amazon) may be a huge help also. I just reread your post. Did it actually go inside your bellhousing, or did it disappear into all the junk on the outside?

If the wrench isnt magnetic, craftsman has these little snake grabber tools with three or four fingers on it.
