Rear Axle Replacement - need some assistance
I have a 2007 Cobalt LT with the 2.2, 4 lug axle. I am not sure if it has ABS and not sure how to find out. Aside from determining which axle to purchase, is there a How To to actually remove and replace one? I have tried to find one, but I can't seem to make any sense on how the forum is organized.

I suspect most all of the rear beams are identical, i feel like slowbalt would know the answer here.

Easiest way to find out if you have ABS: Look for a connector/wire coming from the wheel bearing. If you have that, you have ABS.
I can't tell with the pictures, but that positive camber on your tire I would check to see if the beam is cracked. If so, you need a replacement: Axle Assembly - GM (15232752) https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...w0LWdhcw%3D%3D Or do some junkyard digging. The part number is the same for all models, including SS, so I would say they are interchangeable. |

It is most definitely bent if not cracked. My daughter spun out and slammed the rear drivers rim into the curb. I have found a 2005 26,000 mile 4lug with ABS for $150.00. Are there any parts I should be sure to ask be included?
The back of these things are stupid easy. I would replace all of these parts: the rear beam axel you can get from a junkyard obviously from a cobalt/g5 that does not have rear end damage. I would buy the wheel bearings/drums new -> https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,2007,cobalt,2.2l+l4,1433735,brake+&+whee l+hub,drum,1744, and; and 2 new shocks -> https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...+absorber,7556 If you can get the rear beam cheap from a junkyard (ALWAYS NEGOTIATE), the other parts would only cost ~$100-$150. Remember, anything with brakes/suspension, you need to change out in pairs. |
This what I removed and replaced with my junkyard axle. I had to get new springs - wish I new sooner, I would have gotten Eibachs!

You can tell they rotted away at the breaks |
