and according to what im looking at, the base 5speeds have the f23 with the 3.58 final drive

all i know is that i can get to 60 in second, which would work for the f35/m86 trans
The final drive ratio in the f23 is 3.94, 3.58 is the ratio for 1st gear.

3.84 is the final drive it was changed for the delta cars. Older Getrags had the 3.94 ratio.

As typical, Chevy USA website does not have the correct info--as is the case with some other specs.

I replaced the ATF with Mobil 1 ATF--mnaunal calls for H spec ATF as replacement

Also, to let everyone know, for the '06 model year, it looks as if all automatic transmission cars are switching to the new Dexron VI standard. The fluids aren't backwards compatible so read your manual and be careful which fluid you put in your automatic. That and from what SI is telling me, -ALL- 5 speed Cobalts are getting the Getrag 287 instead of the SS/sc having a different trans (F23) entirely.
the tranny is a F35 from Saab
The F25 is a Saab six speed which is not currently cast for our cars to the best of my knowledge. If there is a change in the SS/SC this would be it. a Six speed. Dont charge me for spreading rumors. this is all pure speculation on my part.
