I have over 50k miles and was figuring its about time.
Any tips or tricks on getting it done? Any recommendations on the best replacement fluid? Thanks, Rich |

if you have jackstands you can do it.
-after jacking the car up, remove the drivers side tire -remove the fill plug located on the side of the tranny by the diff -remove the drainplug -once the fluid is drained, reinstall the drainplug -use a flexible funnel, or rig a hose up on the bottle of oil so you can fill it -when oil starts running back out the fill plug its full most people say to use royal purple, i beleive its syncro max (not syncromesh), the manual transmission fluid that is 75w90. |

Royal Purple Max Gear 75W-90! This is the only Royal Purple product that meets the GL-4 requirement period. It is far superior to GM's $12-15/quart shit. It has a shockproofing agent, LSD additives, and allows the tranny to shift so much smoother than before. Hands down a damn good investment! :twothumbs
Changing it is really easy, just follow the steps given above. Easily do able by a novice on here, just don't strip out the hex slot in the plug. |
why hasnt there been a sticky on this already??
|
Yep, it's Max Gear you want to use.

About how many quarts does the SS SC tranny take? I think I read somewhere 2.0 quarts, but I was just curious how much to order.
|
Grab two quarts and fill it up unitl it starts to dribble out of the hole, and you're good! You won't use all of the second quart.

Gotta keep this in mind...just hit 35k today...

I have been running Royal Purple since last summer and love it...smooth shifting action even in the very cold temps we have been having in Cleveland.
Easy to swap it out, drain and fill. One thing to know, you will need to cut down the allen key to get the drain plug out due to the plugs close proximity to the engine cradle...I think it's an 8mm key. Also, it will be helpful to have a 10-12 inch piece of pipe around to use as a breaker bar as it takes quite a tug to break the plugs free...once free they come out easy. A funnel with a long piece of plastic tube will make it easier to put the new fluid in. |
hey guys i got my tans fluid changed and they used ATF? The trans feels fine, actually really smoother and quiet but uh is this ok?
|

in an ss/sc or ss/tc you NEED to run the special gm fluid. |

just head to the dealers parts department, tell them you have a 2005 cobalt ss supercharged and that you need 2l of fluid for the transmission. they can look it up on their system, itll tell them its not dexron III and that it is manual transmission fluid.

Question. Would AmsOil work in the transmission? if so what would be the correct weight? Thanks
|
i thought u didnt have to change ther trans oil cuz it was sealed???really??
