trasmission fluid leaking from cv boot?
 

well just got home from christmas, and noticed fluid leaking from under my car. After jacking it up this is what i find:

(Anybody have any insight into this, such as a cause and resolution? Do i need to replace the boot, or is it more complex then that do you think?

probably a lil more complicated then just the inner cv boot. but won't really know the true cause until you pull it apart.

just from the picture, doesn't look like the axle seal is looking and doesn't appear to be any rips or tears in the boot itself

trans fluid can in NO WAY leak from a cv boot. it could just be the boot and or the sealing ring are old. if it where me, cause its alot to pull out an axle to change a boot, i'd just put an axle in it. ofcourse a boot is alot cheeper then an axle will be.

Well, looked a little farther and saw something red dripping from farther above, near where the coolant plumbing is, so its def. not tranny fluid, but coolant. Now i just gotta figure out where specifically its leaking from. . . .

Is there a lot? or was there barely any dripping? Are youre resavoirs low?

Follow up. My first instinct is the Transmition Output Seal. Wich seals between the drive shaft and the transmition, however, it almost doesnt look that way. Something from above the boot oculd be leaking onto the boot. The CV joints inside the boot are lubricated with a type of greece, not Tranny fluid. Look above the boot to see if the top part is wet.

When dealing with leaks,
To find: Start with the bottom and keep going up to the top.
To fix: Start at the top and work your way down repairing.

Yep. I'm 99% it's coolant. It is red and is actually coming from above it, that was just where i first saw the drip.

If i saw this last night i would have said not really, however i left the front jacked up overnight and found a significant amount on the ground in the morning. Same with the reservoir (even though it could just be the jack angle) is lower as well.

Youve got a 5spd NA car from the looks of the pic, right? You could have a head gasket leak, or a coolant plug leak, the coolant pipes and heater hoses are all right in that general area. Lots of places for coolant to come from back there.

Update. Basically was a leaky hose. upgraded the clamp, cleaned up the hose, topped off the coolant and called it a day.
