Watch me break my clutch in this sweet video

Yup I've been waiting all winter for spring to come... so I can burn off my old winter tires and put the summers wheels on! I moved my gear selector to 2nd, revved her up and started spinning the tires Then all the sudden, BOOM NO CLUTCH!

I may go ahead and order the GMPP clutch kit and take the trans out tomorrow to verify what broke.
The shifter will go into any gear fine with or without engine running. Clutch pedal does nothing, feels spongy and no momentum behind it. Car rolls in gear like it's in neutral. Above 1500 rpm I hear something clattering around in the engine bay. No brake fluid loss. Shift cables look fine. Anything else I can check before I remove the trans?
Can someone verify the part number for the GMPP clutch kit?

24239996K is the part number for the cobalt/hhr LNF kit. I'm in the process of finding out exactly what is needed to redo my clutch. A clutch elbow pipe and 8 flywheel bolts are also required. Not sure exactly if the LNF and LSJ flywheels are the same, I do remember reading somewhere in here that they are but don't quote me on that

Idk if they are exactly the same but you could use the lsj flywheel on the lnf to what I've been told

Thank you but I ordered the GMPP LSJ upgrade kit. There is lots of debate covered in numerous other threads about which is better. Also both the LSJ and LNF flywheels are super overpriced or out of stock right now. I ordered a LUK LFW285 flywheel instead, figured it would do just fine.

Check out my clutch disk! No friction material left at all, it was all shredded up in my bellhousing like a mouse nest haha. I showed it to my old local mechanic and he laughed real hard and said it was the worst one he had ever seen.

Nice. Your clutch made more smoke than the tires.

That's what happens when you slip the clutch instead of spinning the tires. Water will help next time.

Thanks for sharing though, most people get too embarrassed if they do something like that. For me, it's just a car, it breaks, you fix it and carry on. Better to enjoy it.

Can't see vid on my phone but like Italian joe says the trick is full throttle and dumping the clutch. I just put the gmpp in my lnf, but I'm staying under 400hp on it.

I did pour a bucket of water of the ground to help the tires start spinning but I probably should have dumped clutch faster. Its was the most strain i ever put my car under and I'm actually kinda glad it broke then. I'm driving that car from New York State to Alaska in a few days and at least I'll have a new clutch for the trip! Trust me, you don't want to break down in the Yukon Territory haha.

Just abusing your car.

Nothing impressive or cool about that burnout.

I haven't heard of anyone else using it either. It's available on amazon or rockauto for about $100 shipped. In my experience Luk clutch parts are reliable. It looked the same as my original GM flywheel except for one difference; the pressed-on outer ring with the teeth for the starter gear isn't as thick. The amount and height of the teeth is the same but the whole ring wasn't thick enough to be flush with the back of rest of the flywheel like the GM one is. Attached is a pic looking thru where the starter mounts. This has me wondering about the flywheel because my starter now sounds different when cranking. Kinda like an old worn out starter that sounds like it has sandpaper in it. I even put in a new starter tonight... cranks slightly faster but still sounds odd.
