Will a Cosmo Racing Cavalier short shifter fit (2.2 & 2.4)?

Will a Cavalier short throw fit a Cobalt LS? I asked in Drivetrain but didn't get an answer. If the J-Body shifer will work you can get one on Ebay for $40 shipped. I had one on my 2000 Cav. and loved it. I would remove the reverce lockout but that's just knocking a pin out so no big deal.

YES IT WILL and it fits SS/NA

They are not a direct fit, I "think" some have tried after some fabing they got it to work, not sure what they did though.

I just cut my stock shifter off and ditched the reverse lock out. Works mint and way shorter than the piece of crap Hurst I had.

..... not only is that a rice move but that does absolutely nothing to actually shorten your shift...

x2, cuttin it only puts u at a dissadvantage, the point of a short shifter is to relocate the pivot ball so that you r able to shift over a shorter distance, not to just shorten the actual shifter, that only makes it so that you ave to use more strenght to shift, the more distance you have from the point of pivot, the greater the distance, the more the force is multiplied, the shorter, the more force you have to put in, basic physics

I think the fabbed one was for SS/SC.

Yes and some have flamed on the Ebay shifters not being "TRUE" short throws but I know the one I had in my Cav. was a REAL short throw and not a cut down shifter.

So please post if you have a 2.2 or 2.4L cobalt (F23 manual trans) and the B&M shifter part number 45156 fit in your cobalt with no modifications, and was a direct fit.

its not a "direct fit". you have to mod the reverse lock. thats basically it. ion guys do it, and i was about too but never got around to buying the shifter.

I plan on removing lock out so that's not a problem

Can someone post pics of what exactly you do to get it to fit, and define what is needed?

well i'llbe getting the cosmo shifter... that actually says that it wont work for the redline...so i'm guessing there's no reverse lockout.

Yes that shifter works I have it!
All you need to do is get a small lenght of 1/2 inch gray pvc and attachit to the little bushing on the side of the shifter!
The 2.2 and 2.4 are direct fits only the 2.0 needs modifing!
Ive had it for almost 2 years and it works great!
Best $50 ever spent!

That is a lock out under the knob. You can knock the pin out and remove it. Lock out on SS/SC & redline look different.

I think I'm going to try this one, $40 shipped + it's stainless.
