aftermarket deck possibly overheating?

has anyone had an aftermarket deck overheat and the song your listening to just all of a sudden cuts out then comes back on after a few seconds....its been happening lately to my alpine deck i have installed...i checked the wires and all the connections are tight..its strange cause when i have my heat on after a while the radio will start dropping out but when i turn the heat off and let it cool down it will come back on...anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

and yes i did use the search but did not find ANYTHING about radio overheating

Check if your CDs come out pretty damn hot when you eject.. I had this happen with the stock system and I took it to the dealership and they declared it an "internal failure" and replaced my whole system under warranty.

HolyJerex212 10-30-2008 01:03 AM

my cds do come out pretty hot...yeah my whole system is aftermarket...kenwood speakers mtx sub 2 amps capacitor all wiring and alpine deck...i was worried at times if it was the amps overheating or the deck so im unsure as to what it really is

blissmaster13 10-30-2008 01:04 AM

Ya, but he has an aftermarket deck so I'm not sure if it will be covered. I'm not sure as to the problem though.

EmperorJJ1 10-30-2008 01:59 AM

do you have the pioneer system? what else has been changed in the car speakers? added speakers? ect ect

HolyJerex212 10-30-2008 02:08 AM

4 speakers are kenwood speakers...kenwood amp...mtx sub....rockford fostgate amp...lightning audio capacitor...rockford fosgate wiring...alpine head unit

base model ls system was in there no pioneer system

EmperorJJ1 10-30-2008 02:15 AM

so nothing is connected to the speaker wires just the RCA's? check to see if the speaker wires are shorting out behind the deck

HolyJerex212 10-31-2008 07:14 PM

the wires behind the deck are find and secure...i removed the piece of metal behind the deck so its not shorting out on that...i had it on with the heat last night and it didnt happen but my radio was on a low volume( 7 of 40)...it usually happens when my volume med (15 of 40)...idk im at a loss

EmperorJJ1 10-31-2008 08:25 PM

maybe broken unit send it in for warranty. Normally the only issues that arrise heat wise are form the internal amp due to a shorted speaker or low impendence load

I also have an Alpine after my Clarion took a dump and having the heat on makes the deck overheat after about a couple hours of driving.. Alpine has a low threashold for heat.. I will never buy Alpine again after blowing some type r's 12's with only 250 RMS to both and the heat issue. .. Other option is to install a 12v switched Fan in the dash to accomodate for the extra heat build up. But that is a pain in the ass..

Just my outlook I used to compete in USACI DB Drags and no one used Alpine as much as it's marketed. They make decks that cost a shit load which are rated "Competition" Decks only I can say they are probably the best Alpine has to offer ..

EmperorJJ1 10-31-2008 09:43 PM

huh ive never herd of a competition deck, usaci and db drag are 2 completely different organizations, and your not the only one to blow a sub on "half" power... sounds like clipping or install error got the best of em

BowTieTillIdie 10-31-2008 10:01 PM

No Alpine sucks. BTW here is ahttp://www.hsodo.com/pds/images/CDA7949.gif

I know it must be hard for you to be called the "car audio guru" but here is a link to all I could find about the NON US Alpine competition Deck. This stuff is probably too early for you to understand its day and place in the world of car audio.

I am sorry for no comma, Between USACI & DB Drags .....

Thats good info though

I ran a Crossfire amp 5 ch 500 RMS total to the subs in series with a crossfire passive EQ system .. Clipping ? Don't think so ...... I have had many types of subs to know what will last during the abuse.

EmperorJJ1 11-01-2008 12:24 AM

lol was it a set of the old type r's then? rated at the 250-300w or whatever they used to be

that looks like a top of the line SQ deck not SPL as you made it seem. Not sure if you did both sq or spl but you sounded like spl only

I personally wouldnt use an alpine HU because i have my own beef with them but no head unit ive ever seen gets too hot it thermals without either a manufact defect or install error. Ive seen one give alternator noise but not one that will thermal. Sure you can hate them or whatever but thats just as hypocritical as someone reading up on here that 2 cobalts were lemons or soemthing and saying chevy sucks.

Spun 11-01-2008 02:40 PM

^^
But I thought every Cobalt was a LEMON ;)

@BowtietillIdie-Thats a kick ass avatar

EmperorJJ1 11-01-2008 11:38 PM

lol your probably right seeing how many yellow ones are drinvin around (better spun?)

Deck might not be over heating.
Had this prob when I got my new alpine and put it in my truck. The problem is that the alpine higher end head units require a direct power line to the batery for the constant power b/c the one that is in he dash for the stock radio dose not push enough juice / is to small a wire. That is the awnser I got from alpine. I did like they sugested and wired the constant to the battery and had no more problems after that.

Overheating Alpine Head Unit?

I have the same problem except it only happens when I leave the heat on for too long on the feet setting.

Does anyone know if this is the same problem or not?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks

EmperorJJ1 10-25-2014 12:07 AM

hmm i wonder if maybe theres a hvac tube near the radio that popped loose or something so when you turn on the heat for the foot vent it just blasts hot air at the radio. If i remember correctly both the vents that go under the front seats pass by the center console. I would turn it on full blast and see if you can feel the air going to both sides under the front seats if one isnt blowing air or is less than the other side i would check that side for a loose tube

tlbuxton 10-26-2014 09:16 AM

Re

Thanks I will check into that!
