Aftermarket sub in stock sub enclosure
Hey guys I have recently accepted a new job that requires a lot of travelin on my part and i need the full space of my trunk back. I want to put the stock 10 inch enclosure back in there and put either a kicker cvt or rockford fosgate p3 in there. I can get them both for about the same price through my sponsor. I have a 1000 watt 2 channel performance technique amp and a performance technique power cap. Which would be the better sub to go with?
|
i say rockford
kickers are nice but over rated IMO |
yea but like i said i can get them for exactly the same, actually the rockford is 10 bucks more and they r both year warranty
bump |
if i remember correctly the P3 is spec wise more adapt for smaller enclosures but choose whichever u prefer
|
P3 over kicker
|
so it looks like im getting mostly p3 votes. Like I said it's about the same price so u guys honestly think the p3 is that much better
|
good luck fitting it in, only one that i found that fit was a kenwood, thats of course with out modding either the box or sub

thats what im saying u have to alter the sub or the enclosure, the kenwood i got fits just right, no modding needed. no need to get defensive bro its ur money do what you will. goodluck with your subs hope all turn out good and you get what you want
|
hey man.. let me know how it soiunds after u get it in there.. I wanna do the same thing with possibly the same sub.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pring07334.jpg How does the P3 sound relative to the OEM sub? More output? |
it's got more power going to it then the stock so it has much better output. Can't really compare them on different amps.
|
how hard was it to do that set up with the p3?
|
|
I didn't find it very hard,
pull the box, pull the stock sub out, seal up the whole in the back, pull out the wire, run a new wire, and drop in the P3. (I might have had to trim a little of the opening in the stock box, but not much) and put back in the trunk, connect to new amp and your good to go.

Same RMS, and the P3 shallow comes as Dual VC 2 and 4 ohm versoins. (easier to match a amp) Personanly I like the RF subs better then the Pioneer speakers. But take a listen for yourself. |
lol, do people expect to break things now adays?
|
fuck yes they do... alot of people have absolutely no respect for their equipment and just trash it
|
thats terrible...I search up all the info I can find on something, and then decide if I want to get it, and expect to keep it for a long time. I make sure my components talk well with eachother and Won't blow up the other one. and if they do, I ussually upgrade. (and if it's DOA then I will send back, but thats almost never anymore)
|
lol its been so bad at the shop because people come in and say i dont want it loud. mind you with all custom boxes, real awg wire, and plenty of good cheap amp power (refurb fosgate 300w for 120, fosgate 1000w for 250) its hard not to be loud yet people still just crank it to the point they completely destroy anything and everything
|
yeah, there was a car that came in the other day, getting new subs put in, and when we checked settings, everything, and I mean everything was maxed...
Thats not good for any speaker. |
lol i know wat u guys mean. I am the same way. I dnt plan on abusing my sub i plan on listening to it low im not a real music blaster but I have had a fluke pioneer before. went out after 2 weeks for no reason and no warranty so i was fucked
|
So I got a "proper" head unit in the car and it sounds even better. I am very happy with the P3 sub for what I need.
(by the way, the Factory radio ground wire in my car is not very well grounded and was causing some speaker whine with both the stock radio and the new one, not sure if this is a common issue in the cars, but I do know that the Pioneer systems have a low whine/hiss when the volume is low stock) |
ya im not surprised honestly.... I ran a separate ground to the back and it seemed to help quite a bit

I was wondering what anyone would say about this. I have a audiobahn aw1005n 900 watt rms 1800 peak. I have a mtx ta81001rb 3000 watt max amp but I am only going to push 1000 watts to the sub max. Does any one know if it would be ok to have this set up and use the factory bbox for the sub?? any help would be great thx. |
ya that wouldn't be a good idea. the sub wont fit in the stock box and even if it did 1000w is too much for that box to handle. your gonna want a nice ported box
also watch out with that sub/amp combo. even at 2 ohms 1000w that amp is still big for the sub. not saying it wont work because it will but at the same time be very careful. that amp is a true 1000w rms and the sub is overrated at 900w rms |
Well the amp is only going to push 500 watt rms to the sub x 1 channel @ 4-ohm. the sub says 900 watts rms. you know i was just putting 2 and 2 together. not trying to be a smart elec. the speaker recommended ported box dimensions are .60 to 2.35 cubic feet. so i figured that the box would work. I also am prepared to build one I would much rather use the stock one though. thanks for the info.
Has anyone upgraded the tweeters on the doors close to the mirrors??? haven't looked in to that yet?? |
oh your going to run the amp at 4 ohms? sorry i was under the impression it would be at 2 ohms. that should be a better match up at 4 ohms
if you can build a ported box correctly i would do it if not a sealed box would work. a ported box is going to be much louder hence suggesting it about the tweeter i did some crazy nonsense to get mine to work but here it is https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/fil...weet_thumb.jpg if you have the pioneer system i would just recommend taking out the stock tweet and replacing it with whatever tweeter behind the "grill" like stock. The way i did mine works out pretty nice but it was alot of unnecessary work |
well thanks for the information. So the factory box is still not going to work??? nice tweeters love the fosgates
|
no its too small. plus the sub will not physically fit. trust me
|
well i guess i'll be selling it on ebay. lol. ill let you guys know when the system is installed.
|
k pics too
