Calculating Box Volume

Does anyone know any sites or have any tips for calculating box volume when building subwoofer boxes???

gotboost21 06-13-2008 11:42 AM

what kinda subs you got, and do u wanna go ported or sealed box, sealed bass is tighter, ported is looser

the sub specs should tell you what size to use. then you can just kinda toruble shoot with LxWxH but make sure you use the inside diameters

uhm so if i wanted to put 8's in the rear quarter panel area by the back seats would i just measure the LxWxH of the area and put it in as a...rectangular box on that site ^^ ? It wouldn't be really rectangular, it would be free-form if you know what i mean.

gotboost21 06-13-2008 01:39 PM

i would build an enclosure behind, which would make a rectangular box behind the panel

For an irregular box design you can always fill it with packing peanuts and measure that amount

never thought of that. thanks for the tip!

exactly, use a box that you know the given volume and pour the amount of peanuts in your enclosure into the card board box and measure the volume from the amount filling the box

make sure to have some type of box... fiberglass wood whatever. very few subs are ment to be ran IB (infinite baffle) and power handling goes way down

yeah i was planning on wood. I know it will be alot harder to make, but I'm not experienced with fiberglass and i don't want the mess.

but anyway, i've been trying to figure out how to mount a box inside that opening, it seems a little hard, but i gotta tear it all apart and take a look at it.
