Car stereo crackling and popping
Car stereo crackling and popping
I installed an Alpine ILX W650 stereo in my 2007 cobalt using a Crux SOOGM-16B wiring harness.
Originally I connected the speaker wires from the stereo to the speaker wires on the harness, but there was a constant white noise/static. I fixed that by buying RCA to speaker wire adapters and connecting the speaker wires on the harness to the adapters.
The white noise is gone, but now I hear a quiet crackling (might be the wrong word) sound in place of the white noise. As well, when I turn the volume down to 0 or I turn the car off and open my door, which turns off the stereo, there is a loud pop noise.
I've linked a video of the issue, but it may be hard to hear the crackling over the noise from the microphone.

Typically cracking noises is from wires not fully engaging/poor connection. How did you tie the wires of the OEM harness to the 3rd party harness? If you just did a nip and twist, and covered it with electrical tape, that's your issue.
I soldered everything. If you don't want to then just make sure the connections are super solid.
I bought two of these and used them for the speakers. Instead of using the speaker wires sticking out of the stereo with all the other wires, I capped those off and connected the RCAs on the stereo to the below, then connected that to the Crux wiring interface
I am recalling this from memory, but I do actually still have everything connected and sitting in the trunk of my new car
