Good luck. HU, especially double din HU, are always fairly expensive especially if you want a nice one.

Check Crutchfield, i saw one for like 250 on there, but it was a cheaper brand, didn't have reviews on it.

its cheap right now because its the 08 model instead of the 09 and pioneer made way more then they could sell in 08. Headunits is a really odd market to be in. Everything has to change from year to year. no one is going to spend that kind of money on "old" product. So a manufact estimates how much they can sell and builds exactly that number. Sometimes they run out and **** it but most of the time there is a little left over that they blow out cheap and get rid of in january. With the 4000 thou they were way off due to the recession and all so they still have them in stock that they are trying to get rid of so they can release the new 09 product. Normally mid march all the new stuff is shipping so we'll see what they do. I'm assuming pioneer is holding off and waiting until the old stock is gone since they have less money to work with and with a big company like that reputation is worth alot so selling 2 million dollars of product half off is still a loss but it gives you a million to order new stuff and keeps your reputation as well

so to answer your question its a fluke that its so cheap and i would jump on it if you can. They will run out and the prices will go back up. "normal" dealer price on that unit used to be over 400 so

its basically a lil computer and for the most part the only "correct" option. There's also cheaper options if you want them but there are cons. Simply put it sucks but metra made the correct solution first and made a second cheaper option as well. So while i may sound like a dick that's just the way it is in these cars. Be happy they don't come with bose and there's not a caddilac symbol up front. There's much more fucked up cars to put stereos in out there so

okay will you point me in the correct direction of what the correct one would be... i found this on ebay for $94.99 but idk if its the correct one your talking about or the cheaper one: http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-2006-2007-C...3286.m20.l1116

and whats the cons of the cheaper options, just the steering wheel controls not working?

i would stay away from that one. a member here gave it a bad review due to inccorect pinouts

the cons of the cheaper harness is loss of door chimes and onstar. that harness is 70-2104
the correct harness is either the gm lan 03 or gm lan 04 depending on your cobalt (check the faq sticky up top)

you would need a steering wheel interface either way if you wanted to keep the steering wheel controls. they are normally lost

and this would be metra's cheap one? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e?...words=70-2103T

also in the sticky it says that module is only needed for the 07+ i've got an 06... does that mean i'd be okay with the above harness? seems to be the info i'm gathering from the sticky
