Fog Light issues

Ok just recently seems that my fog lights are having a mind of its own. few weeks ago one of the harnesses fried itself so I ordered another harness. While waiting the 2nd light went out. Replaced them both today and they worked fine. drove back home and looked and neither work and the harnesses seem fine, as do the bulbs. Any ideas what could happen?

no, they used to be on Kevins "Gestapo" car and they worked fine for almost a whole year untill now.

Did you check the fuse? That's all I can think of if they both went out at once

no I didnt check that. Its on the back of the actual bulb correct? if that is what went out then what can I do to fix that?

ditto

my fuse went out a few weeks ago

TommyP 02-29-2012 03:58 PM

No there should be a fuse in the fuse box under the hood for the fog lights

royce777 02-29-2012 04:04 PM

i ran hids fogs in my car for like a month and then i swapped back to regular bulbs and the once connector got ruined and the plastic plug got melted and i just bought a new connector for it and it works fine now. i would say look on the connectors to see if theres and corrosion

07SSYellow 02-29-2012 04:09 PM

nate my fogs did the same thing, kept popping fuses under my hood check that its a 15amp "mini" fuse

ok yeah I replaced the connectors. Just got new ones today lol its soooo annoying because im sure everyone is like me and runs fogs 24/7 lol so make sure its a 15amp mini fuse. ill go check right now.

07SSYellow 02-29-2012 04:16 PM

yes i do haha everytime i get in the car, and yes it is a 15amp "mini" fuse the stock one is blue i think lol

1LSJ2NV 02-29-2012 04:28 PM

ok went out and the fuze is blue with 15 on it. it was blown, replaced it and tried fog lights and no working. Take the new fuze back out and its also blown.

07SSYellow 02-29-2012 04:32 PM

hmmm so its blowing them as soon as you turn it on?

yep as soon as I hit it.

royce777 02-29-2012 04:33 PM

theres a short. check your wiring on the connectors.

1LSJ2NV 02-29-2012 04:39 PM

If its the wiring then it has to be where the harness was soldered to the pig tail.

fuck it wheres a link to buy full harness for plug and play?

everywhere I go gives me a hard time with ordering.

so you had to get a different type of fuze than OEM ones that are used?

07SSYellow 02-29-2012 05:47 PM

ya i just went to Auto Zone and grabbed a 6 pack or something of whatever fuses they had

1LSJ2NV 02-29-2012 06:30 PM

went and put a 30 fuze in and one light flickered then came on so I assume thats the one that has a short. I didnt leave them on since there going to go out anyway. Ill go back and check the wiring tomorrow.

1LSJ2NV good luck with the wiring issue, hopefully you can get it resolved without to much more expense. I've got a question for anyone in this post though. I'm running HID's in my Cobalt. Installed them in october, and up until recently everything has worked fine except for my foglights. A week ago my relay for the headlights burned up, but no big deal, had the heads on my previous car for nearly two years before I transferred them to the cobalt so it blowing wasn't a surprise, had it replaced under the lifetime warranty. But now to my main issue, when I installed the fog lights the only one that worked full time was the drivers side. The passenger bulb would come on for about 30 seconds, flicker, then shut off. It's done this since Oct, but will normally stay on after cutting off about 4 times. However, I want to simply resolve the problem and prevent it from happening again. All connections are good, so I'm thinking its either something with the factory harness, the bulb is bad, or something to do with the ballast. I have new ballasts on order because I initially thought that was the problem with the headlights, so if that's my problem with the fogs then the solution is on its way. However, I won't know for sure until they arrive. The ballasts on the fogs were also initially on my previous vehicle, however, I had to purchase new bulbs as they were not the same. Any suggestions?

I just bought a HID kit from DDM tuning lol fuck it

royce777 02-29-2012 07:24 PM

you might have to cut back some of the stock harness. on mine, it was like fried. i cut back 2-3 inches and the wire was fine and had the nice copper color.

so cut back 2-3 inches from the stock connector?

yeah then attach the whole new foglight connectors.

09BlackSSIL385 02-29-2012 11:46 PM

alright, i'll try that if the new ballasts don't solve it. which, i'm wondering if they could be the problem. I had a mustang before i got the cobalt. the headlight bulbs are the same, 9007, which is why instead of buying a new kit i transferred them over, thus why i expected the relay to go out, although not so soon (thanks to the damn drl's and coming on when unlocking, but i solved all of that today, so now i don't have to worry). but i had to buy new bulbs for the fogs since they're h11's instead of the 983's from the stang. so is it possible the ballasts won't support the h11's? although wouldn't that mean both wouldn't function properly?
