I just bought an 06 SS and the 1 keyfob that came with the car doesn't work. So I bought a new one and took them both to a locksmith. He couldn't get either of them to work and noticed that the car has an aftermarket radio. He said it may be because of that. Does the radio have anything to do with the keyless entry or alarm? Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

Iirc you have to program the new key fobs to be recognized with a tech 2. An aftermarket radio should not effect anything.

Thanks for the reply. I've read that they can be programmed by automotive locksmiths or dealers. I actually had my son take the car there and I assume they have the proper equipment. Since it didn't work when I bought the car and they said they couldn't get them to work I'm assuming there is a problem with the car. So if you are sure that the head unit has nothing to do with the keyless entry then I guess I'm stuck with going to a dealer for further repairs.

I have an aftermarket radio and my fobs work fine. Make sure you got the correct fob for your year. Theres a thread on here somewhere that tells you the correct serial number for different years. A dealer should be able to do it in a few minutes with their tech 2.

Are you sure it doesn't have an aftermarket alarm installed which may have bypassed the factory RKE module in the process?

Haven't found any alarm equipment anywhere. I did just realize that the trunk and panic button work on the one that came with the car. So I'm thinking it may just be the fob. And the one I bought looks identical but may be wrong. I'm gonna see if I can find the serial number info on here and check if the new.one is compatible. Thanks to all.
