Opinions wanted on my projected setup

Well I have gotten the Bass Bug... I am planning on competing in DB Drags next summer and was wondering what everyone thought of the system I plan on building over the next few months. My goal is 165DB.

Current setup:
OEM head unit
OEM battery
RF PBR300.1 @ 1 ohm
2 MA Audio MA80xe's in custom boxes
RF Prime 6x9's out back and nothing in the doors.

This setup hit 129.1DB.

Future setup:
OEM head
Optima Red Top
RF 6.5 T1's up front
RF Power 6x9's out back
RF PBR300.4
4 MA Audio HK15x2's in a custom box
4 MA Audio HK-401sx's
240 amp alternator.

What do you guys think? I am debating between the HK12x2's or the HK15x2's. and I am not sure if I am going to need more than just an alternator upgrade or caps or batteries too... I also haven't found a reliable source for an improved alternator.

Why do you say that? they are similar(though higher wattage) specs to RF T2's and a pair of 15"T2's can hit 150db on a BD2500.1. The MA HK-401sx is more than half the watts and will be ran to each sub, not one amp to 2 subs.

That is what my RX7 and my rat rod are for. Neither of them have radios and both are loud.

The Slowbalt, There will be no trunk space whatsoever and I already have no back seats so I was going to build a wall with the hopes I can still make a 4 chamber design. I am also going to build the bottom of the box with a sealed door so I can still access the battery and the amps are going where the spare was. I am probably going to use these to help hold the seal tight on the access door and where I may need to in the trunk area. I am also going to be using spray foam to keep everything sealed and tight along with 1-1/4 thick MDF on the sealed box. I am gonna do sealed because I definitely don't have room for a ported one if I go with the 15's.

No offense....It is nice to have goals, but like JJ said, you won't hit 165 in the balt. Is it possible? well, of course it is, but I don't think you realize the time, energy, and resources you'll have to invest in your car to hit that number. Anyways, don't get an optima if you want a reliable battery that can handle huge current draw for an extended period of time.....go XS power, Kinetik, or Shuriken...these companies have a variety of solutions for your needs and are much better suited for car audio than optimas...as for the alternator you can check out https://www.dcpowerinc.com/ I had quite a bit of trouble with them getting me the correct alternator for a while, but their product is so superb I can't not recommend it. As for MA Audio, step it up a notch. MA does not make a great product. If affordability is the goal, there are plenty of american made, well-built subwoofers at Sound Solutions Audio - Quality Car Audio Subwoofers ..... Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Also I do have alternators for sale: :P

I got an optima for free from a friend and it was only two months old when he got it. I have just been using it in the RX7 to start it about twice a month.

I like MA, I understand they got bought out by the same people who make Jensen but I love my MA 8's they are 250wrms each and I have sent well over that to them in the 5 years I have had them. Thank you for the constructive criticism and although I am attempting to hit 165 I will be happy whatever numbers I hit. For me it is more the pleasure of playing the game, not necessarily if I win or lose. BTW Emp, I see you're on SMD forums. Thanks for the comment in my RF thread.

So I went out to the Cobalt and I am not going to have room to put 4 15's unless I build a wall where the back seat goes... Just guessing but I should have room for 4 12's but the box dimensions will be too small for the airspace they need... If only they made the Cobalt a hatch. Lol. Now I am in debate... I need to do some true measurements as to what box design constrictions I have and get subs that can match that while putting out the most spl's. If I had the money I would just run a pair of Ascendant SMD 15's but I don't have 2k to spend on just speakers. I was thinking I would be spending around 2500 on the whole system...

That of course is going to be the biggest issue for you with what you are trying to do, find the air needed for the speakers. When you said you wanted 4 15"s I was thinking you were a bit over ambitious. I would say even with 4 12s you're going to run into an issue. Best bet would be to drop in either one 15/18 or find a nice set of 2 12s and call it a day. My unported box with 2 12's is huge in the trunk so a ported one would be insanely large. Hopefully you can figure it out and get what you want

Originally I was going to build a box with two subs facing the rear of the car, two facing forward, and ports all facing straight forward with the front most subs ports ending just above the subs and the rear facing sub ports ending between the forward subs. I was going to make each sub on it's own chamber and attempt to tune ports for 30htz.

You actually had a similar idea to what I was thinking of switching plans to... 8 sa8 V2D2's and I still have plenty of room to port the box however I can... That is $1600 for subs though... Ported they only need .75 cubes each... Sounds like I may be switching plans. I am still going to run 2 MA HK401sx amps though. Only 50 watts below each sub's rms as long as I wire them right.

Yeah I thought about that after I drew it up on google sketchup.

I am thinking the SA 8's would probably be a good bet though, I have heard a pair in a civic hatch and it was loud but not clear... I think he was running a sony amp on them though(why Idk).

Yeah, I am thinking of a simple rectangle box with subs on the top or bottom(with a couple inches between them and the floor ofcourse) but I am debating about port design and if I am going to try single chamber or individual for all 8... It will be a while before the money comes up though so I am probably going to build the box before I get the subs. If I go individual chamber I am going to test them out with my MA80xe's.

I was going to but the future wife bitches whenever I mention that plan because us and the 5 year old can't all fit... That is why I bought her a 4 door... She has the family car, I have the fun cars... She has no real interest in cars.
