Location for the license plates light ground
hey! I have a 2008 Cobalt SS/TC and My license plate bulb has recently “burnt out” so I did what any other logical human would and go purchase a replacement bulb. However, it did not solve my problem... I plugged in my new led bulb and behold, it did not work. I cleaned the contacts, checked for polarity and even hives a volt meter to discover I do have power going to the socket. I have diagnosed it as the ground, I did not want to remove my rear bumper so I undid the 2 thumb screws to the left of my trunk to expose the left taillight. I found my wires going into a taped bundle of around 20 other wires going through a former and heading towards the front where it will never be seen again... my question is should I just cut up the wiring and run my own ground? Or does any one know the original grounding point so I can clean the ground or reroute it? Thanks!

I know you checked polarity but you said you used a led bulb. Have you tried a new regular bulb to test it? The ground for the license lamp is shared with the left rear marker and turn siganls/brake lamps.

The ground for those circuits is g401, its number 2 in the grid picture. Located near the left speaker underneath the rear shelf cover.
