My sound system and its progress.

Let me just start of by saying it grinds my gears to see wires and seams. The following is my sound system in progress that was designed to have minimal seams and wires.

Here is the frame I built for my 2 12" pioneer shallow mount subwoofers. There is a total of 4 layers of fiberglass. The first layer is grill cloth and resin the 2nd layer is fiberglass mesh strips the 3rd is fiberglas mat strips. The 4th layer is on solid sheet of fiberglass mesh. I plan on putting sound proofing in the box it self.

This is what it looks like in the car after bondo.

I took out all the carpeting in the trunk and used the cavity to make this for the driver side for the subwoofer amplifier and capacitor. Still needs some bondo work to close up the seams a little.

I did the same thing for the passenger side for the speakers amplifier and its crossovers. Also needs dondo for the seams.

For the floor of the trunk it will be made in 2 peices. The first peice will go around the spare tire well and touch all the enclosures. The second peice will go over the spare tire well and will be able to be taken out when needed to get to the spare tire. Everything will be carpeted with the same color as the stock color carpet. I like a stock, clean, streemline look. Paint would look bad a$$, I just cant see it for this project. For the black plastic peice that goes over the bottom trunk latch I plan on sand all the knobs off it and skin it with carbon fiber, not vinyl but real carbon fiber.

This is were I moved my Ipod/Iphone. I had my Ipod in the conpartment in the dash on the left hand side of the steering wheel. For a while it was bothering me there so I decided to move it. I cut the USB end off and drilled a hole just big enough for the wire to fit, then spliced it with a longer USB cable. I want to clean this up a little but no ideas come to mind yet. Im open to suggestions.

UPDATE!! 7 MAR 2012!
Subwoofer box is carpeted. i left extra carpet on to bring the carpet up over the hump that was above my box and to cut the carpet around the wheel wells.

The subwoofer box and the mount for the 4channel amp and crossovers are to seperate pieces but with the seams all closed up and carpet on it looks like one piece.

Tight up against the plastic piece no seams.

UPDATE 15MAR12!
this is the first part of the floor. i still need to add the lip that goes around the inside to the removeable peice can sit flush with the floor but i cant do that untill i carpet my subwoofer amp mount.

EmperorJJ1 03-09-2012 11:38 AM

Ccadet02 03-09-2012 12:48 PM

Yea, Id say his is crazier, or rather just plain stupid crazy...

FasterIsBetter 03-09-2012 02:01 PM

Cadet, if I were to change anything, I would have tilted the subs back a lil at the top. This will reduce trunk rattle to a minimum. I tested it with my tilted trunk box and then went to a regular box. I am dynamatted as well.

iv had a subwoofer in my trunk before and not rattle due to the dynomate. they are angled just cant see it in the pic, but they are tilted in towards the center. plus i am not going to have much power goin threw them 600 RMS even then i will be turning the gain down on the amp.

LOL whose is crazier?

Ah, gotcha. I have more than that pushing through my subs but mine doesn't look that nice. I just have 2 Kicker CVR 12s in the kicker box. It looks alright with the carbon fiber design on the front of the box but yours blends in very nicely with the trunk.

Ishould have the floor in by this weekend.

EmperorJJ1 03-14-2012 02:33 AM

yes the spare will be functional. its going to be a 2 part floor the first part will go from the amp mounts and subwoofer box to the beginning of the wheel well. the second will be a faulse floor were i can lift this peice out to get to the spare and bat. not will this only tie in the look but also has 100% function. i am still able to fit a lot inside this trunk.
