Stock Pioneer Sub
Does anyone know the size of the stock Pioneer sub in an 09 ss/tc? Is it an 8 inch or a 10 inch ? I beleive it is a dvc? Or is it a single voice coil sub ? Any idea on its power rating ? I am thinking of changing oit my stock sub and upgrading it in the stock box like in the how to. I may also get the gm pioneer amp to power it also. The 5300t i think ?
Thanks |
It's an 8" DVC, I remember seeing the number 220w somewhere but I don't recall if that's total system power or just for the sub. Might be total.

I added an amp to the stock sub, isolated it from the car's stock amp. Gave me plenty of punch for what it was. The stock enclosure is small and not ideal for a big, powerful sub. The stock speaker is actually pretty good when hit with a little more power.

I'm pretty sure it's a 10" 2 ohm dvc. And yeah I connected a small amp to it and it definitely hits a bit harder.

Not the way I did it, I used a LOC on the stock sub wiring to the amp, and power and ground are simple because the battery is right there. If you cut the harness it's easy to splice one side into the LOC and the other to your amp, just cut it far enough away from the sub that you can re-attach it if you decide to later on.
Most time consuming part was running a turn on wire for the amp, because I ran that from the center console fuse box, under the dash, under the door sill, and all the way to the back. |
stock sub isnt to great at handling more power by the way. not if you are looking to push it
