Tablet as head unit

Has anyone used a tablet as their head unit in the winter yet? I'm looking into doing this but im worried the cold weather might fuck it up and even the heat in the summer

Have had my tablet in my car for about two years and during that time it has endured Florida heat just fine... can't talk about winters though lol

Ive had my ipod on my car for about 4 yrs now or even more lol I know its not the same thing as a tablet but its electronics, battery seems fine. Also summers here are most of the time hi 90 or mid 100. Winter it gets cold but not to much for the kost part

Looks like something bored people did before the advent of touchscreen double din or flip out 7"x10" navigation ready head units.. kinda cluttered and ugly IMHO.

Well all the cables make it look that way

Thanks, all the cables are concealable, all I have to do it just move them into the glovebox... the USB and 3.5mm cables are just more accessible where they are at the moment. A tradeoff I am more than willing to accept.

It's always easier to talk in retrospect I guess, however I wouldn't necessarily say this is a project bored people do. I would actually say the majority of people that did this project in times past were practical and innovative. I mean think about it, you'll be hard-pressed to find any head unit for $200 bucks that can outperform a tablet in terms of power and flexibility.

Very good idea using a tablet for that

Plus the ability to run torque.

Yea, it's pretty awesome. Just a couple things that I do on my tablet include, running torque, having an offline navigation with glonass gps, and tethering my tablet to my phone's data.
