Upgraded to Factory Cruise and Audio Controls!!!
 

Well its done, I installed factory Sport/SStc leather wheel with cruise and audio controls in my '08 LS. Everything functions as designed, took me about 3 hours and just over $300 retail in parts. Check it out!

did ur car come equipped with cruise control before u did this?? if not this is interesting because cruise control is a feature i'd like to have

To be clear, my car is a NO OPTION 2008 Cobalt LS. It didnt come with, nor was cruise/audio/leather wheel even an option.

i think i messed up the registration (i was doing it quick and it said i didnt accept the terms and agreements, yet it still let me set up my account) because when i click the links you have posted on your thread for the pics, it said i dont have permission to view them

do you have a parts list and do you know if this would work for any model 2.2?? like a 2.2l manual?? could this be done by someone not a tech?? like if i had the directions and such is this an option???

ok, so i read the thread from EF....so i cant do this myself...what about just getting the stearing wheel from a cobalt around the same year that has the cruise control controls ONLY and adding it to my car....i have an aftermarket stereo with a remote, so i dont care about the audio, but i want cruise contorl, can someone help to find out how to get this installed into my 06 base model 2.2l ls manual??

good job. that's a good idea. my LT came with cruise on the steering wheel but no audio controls. anyone knows if you can just install the audio controls onto the steering wheel?

System works flawlessly just like factory(because it essentially is) for months now.

New member here, just got my 07 base ls yesterday and want to add factory cruise/power windows, etc.

After seeing this, I am more than positive I can do it in less than an hour. I do audio installations and am very familiar with the installation side of this project.

I can source the BCM and radio connection pins from our wiring harness' at work, or worst case get them from the dealer. The only thing I would need to know is which pin locations on the BCM and stereo harness'.

Is that info you are willing to share...maybe PM it to me if not, or just not at all???

After that a trip to the dealer for the programming and that should be it.

I pmed you, but thanks in advance again for any info you can provide about the pin locations. If not, I understand.

Audio:
Signal wire: Location 11 in Connector 1 of radio(black 14 way) and position E (dark blue wire) at steering coil
10 Volt Reference wire: Location 14 in Connector 2 of radio(black 16 way) and position F (wht/blk wire) at steering coil

Cruise:
Cruise Signla wire: Location 61 in connector 2 of BCM, and position D (grey wire) at steering coil
Cruise Power wire: Splice into circuit 1539 at/near location F9 of connector 4 on BCM, or alternatively any ignition switched B+ source, you could cheat and use one of those little fuse tap dealies and locate the wire under the EPS/STR WHL fuse(this is where its supposed to get its power, F9 is the location the circuit comes out of the fuse box/bcm). Position C (pink wire) in steering coil.

All wires to be used are 22awg.

Inserting wires into steering coil is a simple matter of aligning terminal and inserting.

Inserting wires into radio connectors requires removal of termnial position lock(colored plastic bar through connector) and insertion of terminal into connector( put lock back afterwards)

Inserting wires into BCM connector require connector shell disassembly as well as lock removal, take car not "unload" ALL wires when you disassemble BCM connectors.



The radio controls will work as soon as wires are fabricated and installed, cruise control requires BCM reconfiguration with Tech2.

I just traded in my S2000 on this base cobalt and having cruise control will kinda sorta possibly...eh, not really, make up for it.

Update for anyone interested...sourcing the micro .64 terminals for the radio and BCM is easier than I originally thought.

If the BCM and Stereo Connections are the same (terminal wise), all one would have to do is either source a salvage yard to obtain a factory cobalt 07 & up stereo harness, or do what I am doing which is ordering the reverse wiring harness from Metra that will plug back into the factory cobalt stereo. (71-2104)

Either one would allow the user to undo the locks on the harness to remove the pre-terminated ends for use on the BCM and factory Stereo harness (for the SW audio controls if doing both).

Then, it's simply a matter of soldering on your extension wire since the micro terminal end is already connected to the wire that came in the harness. This will save anyone the hastle of trying to get individual micro terminals and the proper crimping tool to make the connections.

I pulled out the BCM connector and radio harness to compare and they both look identical to me, as far as the round micro terminal ends go.

It makes sense that they would share the same terminated end...we all know how parts are interchangeable between components and vehicles.

This almost seems too easy to be right, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
