laminova core question
 
is there any better way to seal them becides with just the orings they give you? im pretty sure mine are leaking into my intake manifold because i get a little bit of white smoke when i start the car. but only for about 20 seconds then its gone.:cussing::cussing:

i am not sure if maybe i installed the rings wrong or whats going on but im pretty positive its leaking

the way i did mine was i put the thin flat ring on. then the thicker round one then the rubber oring, im almost 100% positive thats how they came off when i took them out to clean them before putting them back in with the dual pass

i just am pretty pissed that there leaking because i took my time when installing them and made sure they"seated" but im still leaking. i guess my biggest question is, is there anyway or anything that i can put on the orings that will provide a better seal?

any help is appreciated

Most likely the o ring got pinched and that's why your leaking. Seen it a 100 times cause there so easy to screw up. Just the littlist pinched and it leaks

A little puff of smoke is normal upon start up especially if it is cold out. Is it bellowing out the exhaust or is it just some small puffs?

slightly. been boosted a week so im pretty sure im not "bleeding out air" anymore
but ive had to top off the coolant neck about 6 times now

once i start the car theres no smoke. then about 10 second later i get smoke for about 30 seconds and then its gone.

and it was 90degrees when i was getting smoke for the frist time so i doubt its cuz its cold.

That is how they go together but I haven't found a better way to seal them. Most likely those orings are pinched though because same thing happened to me. If you take your endplate to a hardware store like Ace you can buy orings there to fit for like 50 cents each. The stealership I think charges something like $35 a piece for those damn things :eek:

is there anything i can put on the orings that will help them seal better? and i wont beable to tear the car apart for a while to fix this. >.<

I'm sure you could put some sealant or something like that on the o rings but honestly as long as you get the cores to go in the orings straight it shouldn't leak. I had the same problem with mine at first then had to take it apart because my dual pass developed a hole that leaked every drop of my coolant into the intake mani and the car didn't like that so much lol. When I took it apart all my orings were pinched so I replaced them and doesn't seem to be losing coolant now *knock on wood*. Been a couple months since I changed them

i just dont wanna drain the freaking system and take all the time to get everything back off and fixed and back on just to run into the problem again. i was thinking of putting some sort of sealant on them and letting the cobalt sit for a day or 2 for it to cure before i even fill the system.

As per the GM dual pass instructions you are supposed to add a dab of assembly oil to the o-rings before reinstalling them in the intake manifold.

There are 2 washers and 1 o-ring per side of the laminova core. Did you check to make sure the laminova core was assembled properly before placing them back into the intake manifold? If the o-rings looked to be in good shape, and you installed everything properly, they should not leak.

I just went through this process last month when installing my dual pass, and it is still fresh in my memory.

If put together properly, you shouldn't need any sealant. You can use any type of grease or non-hardening sealant on them just fine, oil would be ok. The only real reason for that is to allow them to slide into the bores without turning or pinching. Once they are in there safely, unless they are cut or damaged, they will seal.

i lubricated them with brand new motor oil before placing them back into the intake manifold on both ends. and i made sure they "seated" because they went in 95% of the way then, i like to call it "poped" in the last remaining bit, on all 4 cores it did this.

the order i put them on was flat washer. thicker washer, o ring. with the oring being on the outtermost part of the laminova core


oring,thick washer,flat washer, laminova core, flat washer, thick washer, oring

and then oiled both ends and placed them back in and "seated" them

i just would hate to take this thing apart and put it back together and the orings looked to be in great shape but i may just replace them like mentioned before.
