Need help deciding turbo

Alright so I found a buyer for my SC set up and now I need to start looking at what sort of turbo i'd like... I'm a 2.2 with a built motor, stock 10:1 compression and am looking for roughly 350whp. supporting mods will be a treadstone cai, treadstone TR8 intercooler, zzp saab modified intake (or a log style, you tell me!), zzp or ttr manifold (again, your suggestion?) and whatever downpipe (would be catless) that would fit with the turbo. none of these have been bought yet, so if you guys have better suggestions, let me know

Nfamous60 11-23-2012 07:35 AM

you can get the pte 5557, ZZP 252et, or one of the zeta turbos, i was taught to always get a turbo that supports more power then your going for so you dont max out the turbo, its only a matter of time before you are tired of 350whp, trust I KNO, but those would be my suggestion more leaned towards the 5557 though i have a 5857 myself.

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 10:58 AM

my concern is where i hit boost at. i'm going to stick with roughly 350whp just because of the sleeves and i need to start paying this thing off. i talked to my buddy who knows and has taught me a lot about cars in general and he says not to go with any of the 5000 series turbos through pte, even though i was looking at 5431... hahn 20g is apparently out of date and people tell me not to bother. also, journal bearings and ball bearings. i know the differences as far as spool time and such, but is it really necessary to pay the extra couple hundred dollars when i don't plan on racing and needing that quick spool time? i've built my car for my own personal gain, not for racing... thanks for the response

I would look into the S256et turbo by borgs warner my cousin has it on his and it holds 25psi like its nothing its a very good turbo

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 12:58 PM

are the s256's a ball bearing?

Chevycobaltss3 11-23-2012 01:03 PM

If your just wanting 350whp, go with something like a 20g, 5431, 3076, etc... You can go with the TTR manifold and get a turbo that is internally gated. Going with a larger turbo will net you less usable powerband... The 20g is litterly a perfect match to your needs...

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 01:07 PM

but would i be maxing out any of those turbos as to where i want to be?

Nfamous60 11-23-2012 01:12 PM

no, think the 20g is lil over 400, not sure bout the others, someone correct me if im wrong but the 20g is old turbo tech isnt it? jus retro fitted for the balt?

07LSJ 11-23-2012 01:15 PM

I think it's pretty hard to find a turbo for our cars that max out at 350 wheel

Chevycobaltss3 11-23-2012 01:21 PM

Lol the 20g uses older technology but has the ability to be fitted into other turbos. My custom setup uses a td05/td06 cartridge and I've changed it up to a beast of a turbo.. It flows close to the t67/t70 (925-950ish) cfm. I still spoil at 4200-4400rpm

Use the TTR intake manifold for your setup! Stronger than plasic (2.2/2.4L setups) and flows MUCH better over the LSJ supercharged intake manifold.

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 01:26 PM

what kind of throttle body would i need to use for the ttr manifold and who makes the custom ic piping for it?

You use your same throttle body.

We just put the intake manifolds on sale... Check out the vendor special forum.

All you need is a generic 90* pipe and a couple silicone couplers to modify the charge pipe kit.

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 01:37 PM

so my hot side is gonna run on the same side as an lnf does... cold side i would have to have it come out, then under the manifold parallell and basically "U" pipe to get it on the throttle body? i'm running an LSJ throttle body right now, but am selling that with the kit. so you're saying i'll have to buy another lsj throttle body or should i use an le5 throttle body?

We can make if for what ever throttle body you wish... And yes you would "U" the charge pipe to conntect to the throttle body, this is how most do it.

07LSJ 11-23-2012 01:48 PM

Or just get Hahn piping. That's what i have with the ttr mani.

Chevycobaltss3 11-23-2012 01:59 PM

Also, turbotechracing turbo exhaust manifold..

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 02:24 PM

yep you said that. so the 1600 that i'm getting from my sc set up is going for sure towards ttr exhaust mani, ttr intake and whatever turbo i decide. now depending on what turbo i get, how will i know which downpipe to get?

Chevycobaltss3 11-23-2012 02:49 PM

Honestly, I'd get the 20g.. It'll bolt up, and it uses a 3bolt rear flange, vband, or regular 5bolt.. You can get the Hahn super 20g which uses a td06 compressor side and a 52.5mm in wheel, and a td05h 49.2mm exhaust wheel with a 10cm2 housing... And it cost 600$ with a year warranty.. You can also get other 20g's. godspeeds for cheaper builds, or others..

07LSJ 11-23-2012 03:04 PM

Ttr has a turbo mani for Lsj

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 03:05 PM

can you link me the turbo please? i've been trying to find one, but everywhere i go to has an $1100 price tag

Chevycobaltss3 11-23-2012 03:23 PM

Hahn Racecraft - Automotive Turbosystems

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 03:30 PM

so i'd just call/email them to order how i need it? also i'm assuming i should get the 15psi wastegate?

Chevycobaltss3 11-23-2012 03:42 PM

Get the 15psi wasgtegate and email them or pm them on Facebook. Possibly call.

BankerBalt 11-23-2012 03:57 PM

I want the exhaust flange and tip 90 degrees correct?
