Turbos

Does anyone know what turbos are comparable to a gt3071rs and a gt3076r i wanna look outside of garrett and im not having any luck finding comparable turbos

Frogstofall 08-02-2012 02:10 PM

Precision 5557 should be in that realm. EFR 6758 (Good luck finding one).

CheapTurbo 08-02-2012 10:41 PM

The most comparable would be the PTE 5558 or the 5557 (discontinued) like mentioned above. I would strongly suggest staying with Garrett, they have a much more reliable CHRA and will last for ever, the price tag is alot more, but you get what you pay for :) The PTE units make amazing power, but its not so fun when they become a paper weight....

firefighter404 08-03-2012 05:10 PM

yea thats what i was thinking i called presicion and they said the 5530 is the most comparable unit they sale and its 1500 eeff the a new gt3076 is only 1200

cavi2sunfire 08-03-2012 06:14 PM

have you looked into any of the Borg Warner turbos

Nfamous60 08-04-2012 03:07 AM

i think Percision has made a big name for themselves especially with their new line of turbo i just brought a 5857 when i originally was goin to get a garrett GTX, longevity wise garrett has been dominating but things change....think its all in the OP's goals though.

Interesting. I'm fairly certain AMS pretty much strictly uses Precision turbos. I wonder what they have to say about that... ;)

firefighter404 08-07-2012 11:48 AM

yea my goals are high maybe to high, is the 5857 internal wastegated

Frogstofall 08-07-2012 01:34 PM

Not that I know of.

Thats more than likely because PTE gives them the best discount and or the most backing..... Im not saying that PTE is a bad turbo, im just saying that there is much more reliable units out there....

Ryan@zzp 08-08-2012 04:40 PM

The bullseye/borg S256ext would be a good turbo for you.

redsport 08-15-2012 09:48 AM

Is the Borg s256 a ball bearing turbo? And what is a good ar to get for the LNF?

The borg s256ext, there is a difference between a s256ext and a s256. I would run the .55A/R. You want the s256ext. No, it is not ball bearing.

BLOWN GOAT 08-17-2012 09:53 AM

s256 still spools fast for being non bb great turbo

Mindrot 08-17-2012 10:04 AM

Bullseye Power Selector

Nfamous60 08-18-2012 03:10 PM

5857 isn't internal wastegated, i got mine in the mail few days ago and cant wait to get my motor sent to zzp and hav that baby put on...still thinking of upgrading it though but your goals for spool and power will better bring you to a good turbo choice though. i dnt mind a later spool dnt need to keep buying tires since i want a highway monster.

FrossB 08-18-2012 03:12 PM

pretty sure i paid 800 bucks for my Precision 5557 and it does me JUUUUUST fine lol

FF_ace 08-18-2012 03:43 PM

^^^^ 800 bucks and its a journal bearing. Im running a pte 5857 dbb and mine does great, and no its ot internally wastegated

FrossB 08-18-2012 03:43 PM

that^ nothing wrong with JB tho! lol

Nfamous60 08-19-2012 02:17 AM

FF_ace i got that form from pte bout upgrading the 5857 to a 5862 think we talked bout it before..price is $575

FF_ace 08-19-2012 03:42 PM

your right nothing wrong with JB. nfamous im going to hold off on the turbo upgrade thank you though

Nfamous60 08-20-2012 12:35 PM

of course i still havent made up my mind. You and Cmiller r pretty much the only liable reviews on the 5857 that i have to go with. So for my goals i think i just might leave it the way it is.

Turbochargers with around a 55-57mm compressor wheel inducer diameter will be equivalent.

Quite frankly, other than cost, why consider another brand? Garrett is OE and one of the best having dealt, installed and used just about every turbo manufacturer over the past 10 years.

firefighter404 09-06-2012 10:05 AM

Is the s256ext internal or external wastegate. The only reason i would go with a diff turbo is price and maybe to try out another brand. I just wanted to see my options. Im not complaining I made 315 on 11lbs and 91 so im going to turn it up and see. The only problem is i have shaft play and its a JB so it needs replaced soon.

Nfamous60 09-06-2012 02:44 PM

dnt over do the boost and break it, think the s256et is external waste-gated though.
