Variable compression ratio - SAAB
So I was researching some diesel motor stuff for my dad's 6.6 duramax, and I came upon this site:
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/press/000318.html It explains how Saab managed to figure out how to make a variable compression ratio motor. It's pretty amazing how it works, and makes alot of sense, but imagine the cost! The page was written in 2000 so it looks like variable compression ratio motors are not in the near future. It's still a good read! btw, this can be moved wherever it seems to be most appropriate. It is somewhat boost related. |
you know...one day, someone is going to make a car with variable valve timing, variable compression ratio, and continuously variable transmission...and it will rape everything

Yeah, I read elsewhere after looking into it some more that alot of other companies have lots of money into r&d projects such as this one and they figure something out really cool, but then never use it in anything. If only they could combine their creations into one car, and make it amazingly complex (but fast!).
