Z54 Findings

Ok I have tuned a bunch of Z54s now and wanted to share my findings. As everyone should know by now is that the Z54 is basically the entry level 6758EFR bolt on option for our car. In my opinion I believe the turbo steps will be K04 < Z54 < 7163 (we'll leave out the 257 for now but 71 is my fav) The reason why I like the Z54 over the 6758 is it spools a bit slower to help save the trans and the 67 costs too closely to the 71 which is an amazing turbo for our car. The 67 is still a good option for Kappa guys who can use the faster spool but cobalt guys shouldn't waste their money.
So now let's talk about what I've seen from the Z54 setups I have tuned. As I've said with the slower but smoother spool you can run little or no ramp on the Z54. If you are looking to run around 24psi and have a mild setup the Z54 is great and I would order as is. There are people out there who would like to push the Z54 a bit harder than this and since it's a Borg Warner journal turbo it should take quite a beating. But you will have to order the turbo with the other high boost actuator. I have told customers to order other actuators and I do not believe ZZP charged any different since they cost the same but I may be wrong. I would order the Z54 with the high boost actuator and run it at around 26 to 28psi. For all you guys looking for more power from your car this is a great turbo and fun option for a really fair price!

Thanks for the input on this turbo man!! Will def help a lot of us guys out when looking into going with a bigger but yet "safer" turbo!! This turbo definitely has my eye for sure. Especially since the K04r has been blowing up on some people

It's great, I love mine. Even though it spools just a bit slower it definitely doesn't feel like it holds you back at all.

I think when I get around to adding a fuel lobe cam and springs/retainers with E it'll be an absolute blast, at least until something like the stock 3.82 lets go
